  1. +1 for Route Des Grandes Alpes. Along the Pyrenees I'd drop into spain, the N260 is excellent pretty much anywhere, Ripoll to Urtx must be one of the most "Caterham" roads anywhere in the world. Just unremitting mile after mile of technical bends!

     

  2. Check for any leaks/weeps or other way air could be entering the system. Dry paper towel/tissue around all the brake pipe joints will find any issues, best done when there's some pressure in the system. Doesn't take much air to spoil the feel.

    Mintex 1144s or Ferodo DS2500s a good option, but you might want to match with different rear pads (otherwise the rear can be a bit snatchy which is entertaining if you trail brake).

     

  3. When mine was reskinned in 2018 due to corrosion around the grot traps, I went from silver to Daytona blue (I'd always wanted a blue one!). Chris at 7workshop stripped it, TSK did the paint. Blue with a grey stripe you say...

    It's a bit lighter than I'd originally expected, but was very happy with it.

     

  4. Oh, if you've got an easybleed, try the paper thing I mentioned with the easibleed attached and creating some pressure in the system (or with an assistant pushing the brakes). The leak might not be very apparent until there's some pressure.

  5. How do you know there are no leaks? If it's a tiny airlock, then it's probably an unnoticable amount of fluid from a simple visual check.

    Try going around all the joins with some clean, dry towel/paper - it will quickly wick any fluid and show you the tell tale of a damp spot on the paper - check joins through the side skins, 3-way joint, and into the master cylinder.

    I had a similar nightmare with mine - it was fine on road, but any track use and I'd have a problem. Eventually cured with new calipers (not that expensive from rimmerbros). I think the bleed nipples themselves weren't actually sealing properly although I also had an issue after replacing the master cylinder where the old pipe flare didn't seal properly to the new cylinder. I made up a new section of pipe with a join into the old pipe that solved that.

  6. re getting another new one - I'd waited 3 weeks with the car off the road, was imminently going on a euro road trip so didn't have time. When I got back I figured I could live with it, and there was no guarantee another new one would be any better (I can't remember if the delamination was there from new, it was a couple of years ago. But the faulty elements definitely were).

  7. I had it on a replacement screen (along with a good 20% of the heating elements not actually working). Screen company offered to replace it if it got worse but I figured another replacement was likely to be just as bad. 

     

  8. Unfortunately I've had to sell the 7, so I've got various bits to clear out of the garage.

    I don't have time to post, so collection only. All currently near Ely (Cambs), might be able to arrange transport to Bromyard or points in between.

    Half of all proceeds will be donated to Prostate Cancer research.

  9. My observation would be a direct inverse correlation between the conspicuity of a drivers dashcam and the standard of driving. (there are a lot of s**t drivers that seem to think a dashcam is going to record evidence of everyone elses wrong doing not thinking that it might be them that's the problem). I'd also like to see plod start prosecuting dash cam users who don't disable the screen during use - until the legislation gets updated. Personally I think they're hateful things - if we want better driving standards the appropriate solution is more roads policing and if you're concerned about others driving standards a better solution would be to take your own defensive/advanced driver training.

     

  10. My 6 speed (1997 car) had a mechanical drive, but it was really badly worn and weeping, so I moved to a new speedo with a hall sensor picking up from the back of the front hub (speedo was also quite a way out, while the electronic speedo can be very accurately set).

     

  11. Peak district is ruined by a large number of roads having utterly ludicrous 50 limits.

    Loads of good roads around Llandovery. How far do you want to go?

    Obviously ones are the A4069 to Brynamman (as used by many car magazines and TopGear, although now also spoiled with a 40 limit), A4067. The A482 through Lampeter to Aberaeron is good (again, much of it 50 *nono* )

    A personal favourite is the white road from LLywel to Tirabad through the military ranges

    A little further afield the triangle around Newbridge - Garth - Upper Chapel - Builth Wells is epic. Continuing from Upper Chapel to Brecon also good.

    Further north still, the run across from Rhyader to Devils bridge is very pretty, single track in places but not normally too busy.

I had a new screen (due to a stone chip) a couple of years ago and it arrived with some of these failed spots from new *curse* I challenged the supplier (who got it from caterham) to be told TADTS, but if it got worse it had a lifetime warranty and they would change it again. I don't drive it in the wet enough to get really annoyed by it and while somewhat skeptical of their line it is plausible. So interested to hear what others report.

  13. Try not to get ****ed off with cars holding you up in the twisties then pissing off on the straights when they don't lift enough for you to pass and assume because you don't you're not interested rather than you're absolutely flat out but just don't accelerate above 90mph very easily (especially if you've got a screen rather than aeroscreen)

  14. I've also bought a verce on Jonathan's suggestion and it works pretty well. I used it in landscape mode and on a 2 hour blat on some lumpy fen roads it was fine. I've also used it in portrait in the other car and it also works well. The only difficulty I've had is that the clip strength is quite aggressive and I struggled to get it off the vent in the other car. The mount will pull off the clip - I might use some glue on that. But otherwise it's one of the better phone holders I've used.
