  1. Thank you both.

The problem is that having bought the car second hand I had no idea of the state of the foam baffle in the sump or even it had one. As part of a general service I performed on the car, I took the sump off and ordered a new oil filter and DVA sump gasket. While on the phone to DVA I asked about the correct torque for the sump bolts that thread into the bell housing and was told 22 ft lb. It isn't as I found out when I stripped a thread. I have bought helicoil set, but wanted a backup sump on hand in case I make a mess of things.

  2. Apologies if this subject has been done to death however, I’m struggling to visualise the fitment of the QED thermostat into my R300.

Despite a third of my rad being covered and unless ambient temp is 15 degrees or above and I drive it like I stole it, I never achieve the 82 degrees my rad fan kicks in at.

I decided that a QED thermostat housing would be a good idea as the car is without a thermostat at the moment and I’m concerned about the constant heat cycling going on when not achieving a stable running temp.

So, thermostat in hand I’m looking at the metal water rail running over the primaries and parallel to the rocker cover, wondering how on earth is this going to fit.

The clearance of the rail to the rocker cover looks too small, the length of the rail available looks too short to accommodate the housing and QED suggested additional hose lengths due to the rail fixture to the head. Also is a it a good idea to run the additional lengths of flexible hose over the primaries?

Has anybody fitted a QED thermostat to an R300 that could share pictures and wisdom with me?

    Thank you.
