Hello,
As the subject box states, I'm looking for an original handbook/owner's manual for my 1984 Sprint. I'm located in the States.
Thanks.

Hello,
If the Momo steering wheel is still available, can you tell me what size it is?
Thanks,

Don't know if I "Stumped the Stars" on this query but I was able to ascertain the answer from the ex-US Caterham Distributor who told me, yes, to remove the the anti-roll bar, one removes the nuts at the end of the bar and then the two mounting blocks on the chassis. He then told me that the bushings are best removed/replaced with a shop press.
He also said, that given the age of my car and the low miles (less than 8k), he thought it best to replace all the suspension bushings as any of the rubber that hasn't worn out has surely dried out. I'll wait until Autumn for that projet.
Hope this helps another early Caterham owner.

Hello All,
I have an '84 live-axle Crossflow Sprint. While doing routine maintenance on the car, I noticed that one of the bushings on the top link is, to use the British vernacular, knackered.
I have a few questions about this as I've never dealt with any of these bushings before. Is the best way to access the bushings to remove the anti-roll bar? Is there a special technique needed to remove/replace them? Last, should I replace both the driver's and passenger's side bushings while I'm already in there?
Thanks in advance,
Steve Ross

Yes. Here's the link to the current ebay listing so you can see which manual we're talking about: http://tinyurl.com/y9q7wgxd

The only reference I have is recent ebay.co.uk activity. A 1995 owners manual went unsold in October with a 149 GBP Buy-It-Now. Another vendor sold a similar manual in November for 43 GBP with 2 bids. A third 1995 manual is currently on both ebay.co.uk and ebay.com with an 89 GBP Buy-It-Now. I should note that all proceeds in the current sale go to charity.
FWIW, if it was an '84 or '85 manual I would have purchased it at that price.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I am looking for an original hard copy. I have the '88 manual in PDF format thanks to some forum members.

I honestly don't know as I've never actually seen the diagram! However, it does similar to what I'm looking for. Thanks again, Jonathan.

I'm in need of diagram 10.4.4 from Section 10 of the 1988 Assembly manual. Jonathan Kay was kind enough to send me a copy of Section 10 but that illustration is missing. Apparently, it shows the reverse lock out on the gearbox which is what I'm looking for.
Would anyone have a copy of that illustration that they could send me?
Thanks in advance.

I drove off in my '84 Sprint yesterday morning and the speedometer did not work and neither did the odometer. The trip odometer did function. After about 20 minutes the speedometer and odometer miraculously came to life and continued to function perfectly the rest of the 2 hour drive.
I assume that something must be on its way out and I'd like to know what to look for, especially since the problem appears to be intermittent.
I have a Smiths mechanical speedometer. I checked the archives and could not find anything that specifically related to my problem.
Thanks in advance.

Mr Shiney, I looked at section 10 of the build manual and found the reverse adjustment you referred to. Looks like a simple adjustment (but it rarely turns out that way, at least for me). One thing that I found to be interesting was that the manual states that one has to depress the gear lever in order to find reverse on the Escort 4-speed. Is that the case?
Andy, thanks for your response as well. The linkage is tight; I just have that reverse issue. Honestly, I have no idea what you're referring to regarding the installation of additional long bolts in the linkage but I'm sure it will make sense once I have a look at it. It sounds like a virtually free mod. that will increase the quality of the gear change. That can't be a bad thing!
I'll report back after I've f-cked up the whole thing and sent the car out to to be repaired properly;-))

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll consult the build manual as suggested by Mr. Shiny.

I'm settling in with my recently-acquired '84 X-flow Sprint and I can say, without hesitation, that it is the most fun I've ever had in an automobile. It really does put a smile on my face every time I take it out for a run. I just hope I don't lose my license!
Anyway, to the point. My car has the Escort 4-speed transmission. Should there be a spring preload between the 1-2 and the 3-4 gates, for example? Should reverse be locked out so it cannot be engaged accidentally?
My car has none of the above. The linkage is a little stiff (compared to my '90 Miata) and I can just as easily select reverse as first if I'm not careful. Other than that, the car shifts fine, never pops out of gear and has short throws from gear to gear. Just curious if my linkage is missing a spring or something.
Thanks in advance.

The brake pedal on my recently acquired '84 Sprint is located too far away from the gas pedal for me to be able to heel-and-toe. Is it possible to move the brake pedal closer to the accelerator?
Thanks In advance.

My recently acquired '84 Sprint has a 1600 Kent engine with a Lotus-Holbay valve cover. Were those valve covers available for the 1.6 Kent or might there be something interesting about this engine? The car goes like hell but, since this is my first Caterham, I have nothing to compare it with. Really, just curious.
Thanks.

Hello,
Does anyone have a source for the 1988 Assembly Guide and owner's manual? Don't care if it's paper or PDF.
Thanks in advance.

Flatbed Tow?
in TechTalk
Posted
Good evening,
I have an '84 Seven Sprint and I'm wondering where the tow hook should be placed on the frame of the car in order to load the car onto a flatbed tow truck.
Thanks in advance.
