chris whitlow
Can anyone confirm what the latest regulations are for plumbed in fire extinguishers as the way I'm reading the Sprint and Hillclimb specific regulations the K.3.1.2 regulations are recommended not compulsory. I don't particularly want the cost and hassle of fitting a new system so would prefer to leave my current system in place.Cheers,Chris
Dannyboy
I've never run with a fire extinguisher in Sprints as it's always been a recommendation rather than mandated. However - check in the blue book whether it noted that 'if fitted' it needs to be in date and operational - I've not checked..
chris whitlow
The blue book doesn't appear to mention 'if fitted' but I may be looking in the wrong place. My current options are to leave my current system as is and wing it to see what happens or take it all out but that feels like a backward step in terms of safety. Dannyboy
ChrisI'd leave it in - if a scrutineer argues it needs to be compliant then all you have to do is unscrew/ remove the extinguisher itself not the associated plumbing.
Leadership Team 700newtons Posted February 7, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted February 7, 2022 I have the same issue.I plan to leave my old system in place. If its an issue then I'll remove the extinguisher and stickers in the paddock. However, being asked to remove a safety feature is unlikely (I hope).Simon
Drumster
Last year at Curbs I asked the question of one of the scrutineers and the reply was pretty much "as long as the needle remains in the green they'd be happy, after all something is better than nothing". chris whitlow
That's good to hear Simon. At least I'm not alone!
magister
I am having my plumbed in extinguisher serviced by a local company next month - cost about £25 a couple of years ago. I am also of the opinion that having something is better than nothing!P
7_Malc
This might help:https://revolution.motorsportuk.org/full_page_image/page-16-32/content.html– the date of installation (pre 2019) and level of requirement by your discipline seems to be the key information. Roger Ford
2019 is only relevant in that new-build vehicles (actually vehicles first raced or modified for racing) after 2019 had to comply with the new regs. For 2022 all racing vehicles have to comply, regardless of build date. I don't, however, know how the regs apply to speed events.
Roger Ford
I looked at the Blue Book. It's pretty clear: S10.2.14. Fire Extinguishers – K.3.1 recommended. So since they're only recommended, there's nothing to stop you having a non-compliant system fitted.
