Last years event
Back for our third year of running the London Concours at the Hare and Hounds in Osterley and the sun shone on us yet again.
Ollie White from HWM and club legends Ruth and James Whiting did the judging with additional technical support from George North aged two and a bit and Ario Jahannia aged 3 months, founder members of the Caterham Appreciation Club under Fives Division. George co owns a 620R with his Dad, David North (Central London AR). Ario is looking forward to taking over his Dad’s 310R though presently finds the Jeep more convenient.
The best car in show trophy went to Colin Ford and his personally handcrafted Caterham SV painted in Arancia Argos with a 190 bhp Sigma engine, custom screen carbon fibre wings and sparkly lights all round but all in the best of taste.
The scruffy but fast trophy went to Bob Baker and his 1400cc Caterham K Series, regularly to be seen at Harrow Car Club sprints. Molly (the car, not Bob) won the same prize two years ago so the silver ware collection is getting slowly larger.
Runners up included Howard Thomas in his Roadsport 125 finished in gravity black with flouro green decals. With a chassis manufactured in 2012, this car was built by the Caterham School Kit Car Club, returned to Caterham cars in January 2023 and was then registered to Howard in in May 2023 which means it is probably the last road going Roadsport to be registered in the UK and looks very smart.
Tim Matthews from High Wycombe came along in his equally smart 140 Roadsport SV and Andy Ward from Brentford made the sun shine with his Exocet red 270S, built and registered in Wales in June 2019 with the 1.6 VCTi Ford Sigma engine and some neat and bespoke 3D printed ‘bits and bobs.’
New club member Tim Ennett nipped over from Teddington to research what Seven to buy and as you might imagine there was no shortage of advice. One option is the 420 Cup demo car that Ollie brought along finished in Aston Martin Cinnabar orange. If you want your new Aston and your new Seven to be perfectly colour-coordinated then head for HWM just over the river in Walton. The car comes with carbon fibre heated seats, adjustable Bilstein dampers and LED headlights and is on sale for £64,995.
Star of the show but not part of the show was the 1960 Series 2, just one of the fabulous cars owned and built and restored (and designed) by Ruth and James Whiting.
Thanks as always to the team at the Hare and Hounds for looking after us so well. Thanks also to HWM for sponsoring the trophies.
London West Middlesex meet at the Hare and Hounds for lunch every third Saturday of the month and every second Tuesday of the month at the Ace Café with our friends from the Harrow Car Club and Midget and Sprite Club.
