FLOAT LEVELS

can't seem to edit my above so

https://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/1048-setting-dhla-dellorto-dellorto-float-fuel-level/

And here's what I need and have copied and edited from that with thanks to "DaveNotSoSideways":

02 = 8.5g       15.5 - 16.0 mm

and

Above CLOSED and OPEN  images show the needle valve has a spring inside.

"ALL static adjustments to float heights MUST be done with the lever tab on the float touching the rounded tip on the needle valve shaft, but NOT compressing the spring at all when the measurement is taken."

To repeat:

"NOT compressing the spring at all when the measurement is taken."

Now then this sounded easy, but after two weeks messing with the float level(s) I realised I was not complying with this even though I thought I was. What made me realise was re-reading the above instructions (on the remote site linked above) and it dawned on me I was compressing the spring so all my measurements are out by 2 or 3 or 4 mm. Also I misremembered the float height as 15mm when it should be 15.5 to 16m so that is another .5mm to 1mm out. As a result my floats are floating too high and allowing too much fuel in; so this is why my fuel height measures are always thirty something millimetres (e.g.31,32,33) and not the desired 27mm (roof to fuel, not fuel depth to floor).

To start with I was getting too much fuel in the float chambers and decided (correctly I think) that when lifting off the float chamber lids the floats drop releasing the needle valve and allowing more fuel in during the removal process. I solved this by removing the intergral petrol filter from each carb before lifting the lids, so there is no extra fuel waiting to drop in. The instructions say to wait a bit for the fuel pressure to drop, but that doesn't prevent there being fuel waiting to make its way in during the lid lifting process.The instructiosn say to remove the lid in under one second. I can't do that, the gasket always gets trapped so the above is my workaround that (literally) takes the pressure off (off both me and the fuel).

I have become adept at carb lid removal, refit and fuel line and filters refit..
