The boring bits
The boring bits seem to take an unreasonably long time. The transmission tunnel is a pretty busy place, with fuel line, wiring loom, brake line and handbrake cable all having to be tied down (or perhaps up), safely out of the way of a spinning propshaft. I've positioned the T piece that spilts the rear hydraulics between the left and right calipers on the rear bulkhead behind the drivers seat. I just need to make up the short connections from the T to the two flexible hoses and the circuit will be complete.
The job list still includes:
- Refit rear axle, remembering to fill it with oil.
- Finish the hydraulics for the rear brakes, refill with fluid, bleed and test.
- Finish the handbrake linkage, test and adjust.
- Fit fuel tank and complete pump wiring.
- Refit boot floor and fuel filler.
- Refit nearside rear wing.
- Remove engine and gearbox.
- Change gearbox speedo drive to match new diff ratio.
- Fix oil leak from oil pump.
- Refit engine and gearbox, remembering to fill gearbox with oil.
- Refit steering column.
- Tap cylinder head for a hot water takeoff for the heater.
- Bolt down cylinder head and rockers, set valve clearances.
- Refit starter, alternator, exhaust and throttle bodies.
- Refit coolant and oil hoses, fill with oil and coolant.
- Source longer throttle cable and fit.
- Refit seats, gearstick, transmission tunnel cover and gearknob.
- Refit windscreen, wipers and rollover bar.
- Replace top balljoints (boot splits were an MOT advisory)
- Get the ECU mapped!
It's a depressingly long list, so messages of encouragement are welcome.
