Andy Best Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I have just bought a new VHPD exhaust - to say it's a bit less shiny than I expected is a bit of an understatement. Being a bit pressed for time I think I might hawk it round a few local metal polishers rather than do the job myself. Searching the archives it seems the price ranges from £25 - £100 but doesn't say if this is a complete system or just the headers or silencer . Can anyone help with a sensible guide price to polish a complete new comp system. TIA Andy
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted March 17, 2006 Area Representative Posted March 17, 2006 Andy, My (really) scabby VX system was completely polished for £40 and this included the primaries, collector and silencer. The chap did say he wasn't sure how good it would come out when he saw how bad it was, but it came out like new a couple of weekends later 😬 If its new but not as shiny as expected than I think you should pay around £25 max. Classic Carriage used to charge £50 for a whole new system to be polished but this did include their profit fee. HTH Nick Now the Orange HPC - A 2.0 VX - 😬
Dazzled Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I had my new Caterham 4-2-1 complete system polished by a local metal polisher for £50. It looked stunning. I found his name in the Yellow Pages. He'd never been asked to do an exhaust before as he specialised in swimming pool fittings - he was so chuffed he asked for a photo of it on the car to put on his wall.
nickh7 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 do it your self, I did with very fine Wet and dry and brasso, followed by a polishing ket bought from car shoe for £10. You can see the results here You'll save money and you can say I did that Nick h Its Yellow and Black and makes me 😬
Paul McKenzie Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Nick, Yeah, but it must have taken ages with that Dremel Paul
nickh7 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 No I used the big Bugger for most of it the dremmel was just for the fiddly bits, best bit was the rattle that had bugged me all last year turned out to be 3 little stones caught in the collector, found it when I stripped it down to polish Nick h Its Yellow and Black and makes me 😬
Sandy Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I had my headers and collector done by a local polisher last week. Can back mirror finish and cost £35 Its not the days in your life ..........But the LIFE in your days!! ;0))
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted March 18, 2006 Leadership Team Posted March 18, 2006 Andy - I'll polish my manifold and system to a mirror finish, then we can do a deal on an exchange basis - £25 cash (either way 😬) Stu.
Nigel Riches Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 And after a few minutes of use it'll need doing again, is it really worth it? 1982. 5 speed, clamshells. B.R.G / Ali. The True Colours.
Andy Best Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 Thanks for the replies . Guess I will hope for £40 +/- £10. Nick7 normally I would unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment. Thanks Stu but I will stick with what I've got 😬. Nigel I know it will tarnish but at least I will be able keep on top of it once it's been polished once. Myles Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Good-grief! Drive 7. Win silverware. Polish silverware. Polish and 7's are best kept at a safe distance...
