I have taken the sump of my car and upon inspection I find the bottoms of the pistons have been drilled in different places, the pistons also look like they may be alloy.

Was this a standard thing on the 1700 super sprint?

No, these sound like Acralites pistons, they are drilled, this is how they balance them. Is it very smooth finish? If it is then they are forged pistons and not cast versions. *thumbup*

Yes they are very smooth looking and a whitish grey colour, the rods look as though they have been machined in places.

If they are Acralites pistons, what is the safe amount to rev too please.

Looks like my crank has been drilled and balanced, this can't be standard?
