Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted March 14, 2006 Leadership Team Posted March 14, 2006 Am in 2 monds about putting my name down for the SPA trackday. POSITIVES Fantastic, historical venue, Eau Rouge etc NEGATIVES Long way to drive I'm sure this will be a popular one - maybe already too late to book? Please, help me make up my mind! Michael.
Mark Durrant Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Send in an entry form the long drive will seem worthwhile once your there. I intend to make the most of it and go on to the Nuburgring and do a few laps there too. If you choose not to you will only regret it later Mark D Comp Sec
Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted March 14, 2006 Author Leadership Team Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks Mark - So - who else is coming along? What's a likely trip from Boulogne/Calais - 3.5hrs? Oh, and how far is it on to the Nurbergring? This really could be some trip! Regards - MC Edited by - Mcalvert on 14 Mar 2006 18:17:27
mav Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 There is a second day on the Friday too. Nurburgring is about 1hrs blat away...
irrotational Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 what is the standard way of getting to spa? eurotunnel to calais? Is it *only* 3.5 hours? I will be setting off from St Albans on Wdnesday night and need to figure out a cunning plan to be in Spa by Thursday morning... Can't find any Belgian ferries!? --- this is a local sig for local people!
A10ROX Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I would strongly recommed not doing The Ring particularly on the Wednesday evening before from 5:30 onwards .. .. .. .. ....... Because, we don't want too many there do we 😬 Spa is an easy drive form Calias 3.5hr towing, The Ring another 1.5hr Spa is like no other track, history, distance, mixture of corners You just need an awful lot of fuel, it is a bit of a full throttle circuit Remember they do take some of the fun out of The Ring, no cameras, no slicks and even workmen on te track "It's a public toll road" see you all there A10ROX:OK, its an R500 without the magnesium bits sump etc and only 205bhp!
fastlady Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Michael - assuming I'm not too late to get on the club day I am intending to do both this and the commercial track day at Spa the following day. I would definitely be up for a trip to the 'Ring afterwards if there is a tourist day, as it's something I've been meaning to do ever since I got the Seven, so if something gets organised (formal or informal!) please count me in 😬 I'm a newbie to both Spa and the 'Ring but I hope that won't stop me tagging along with anyone more experienced in these matters!!! 😬
Area Representative z7 Posted March 15, 2006 Area Representative Posted March 15, 2006 Micheal, you missed dodgy weather in your -ves list The other -ve for me (some may include it on their +ves 😬) is that I don't know if I'll be able to make it and so can't commit ☹️ ☹️ Otherwise, I'd be doing both days. I was really gutted when I was there with Angus and couldn't drive because Caterham took 3 months to sort out my exhaust You have to do it Adil
darren f Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 It looks like Friday the 25th is not a public day at the Nurburgring, whereas the following Saturday and Sunday are- at least according to the official site. darren f The Building of R300SEV is Here Edited by - darren f on 15 Mar 2006 10:58:50
Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 15, 2006 Support Team Posted March 15, 2006 I'd do it if I could. Unfortunately have already booked to be away that weekend. Also missing Curborough 2 sprint ☹️. Yellow SL #32
fastlady Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Brilliant, thanks darren f! The 'Ring looks to be open all day on the Sunday so it certainly looks like a 'must-do' long weekend now
Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted March 15, 2006 Author Leadership Team Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks all. Form was sent off last night Just keep my fingers crossed for a space! Michael.
Mark Durrant Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Wednesday evening looks good for me Mark D Comp Sec
irrotational Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 So whats the concensus then? will sevener's mainly be at the Ring on wednesday evening or sunday? or both!? Ive got the Wednesday off to travel so could possibly do the Ring on Weds evening - only problem is potentially crashing the car before Spa!? Also - do the club hire helmets? --- this is a local sig for local people!
mav Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 The Club DO NOT hire helmets. BAT may have soem with them you can hire...
martinray Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 David, I even heard a story about a 3 wheeler on the Ring last year. Gulf Blue if I recall correctly. Martin R500 MPR
dannylt Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 BAT have a stack of helmets, but best to book them. I'll be there for thursday and friday! Irrotational - live very close to you and I generally leave early afternoon on wednesday and get there in time for supper & beers via Eurotunnel. I'd say 3.5 hours from Calais is a bit optimistic if towing though.
irrotational Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 danny - will probably leave earlier as we have the day off so may as well use it! will try and take a scenic route along the way - no towing! (hopefully! otherwise the car will have broken and itll be AA lorry) will ponder helmet situation... --- this is a local sig for local people!
Paul Thompson Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 If you are planning to fit the Ring in do it on the Wednesday not the weekend when there will LOTS of traffic.
A10ROX Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Martin I think you had to be quick to see it on track Blink and it was gone .... A10ROX:OK, its an R500 without the magnesium bits sump etc and only 205bhp!
dannylt Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 iirotational - let me know if you want me to take anything for you then. My plan is always to bring as many spares as possible to guarantee nothing will break! Oh, and lots of wets to make sure it's sunny 😬
irrotational Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Dannylt - thats very kind - just be careful, you might end up with my wifes suitcase full of clothes!! 😳 --- this is a local sig for local people!
irrotational Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 😬- that could get expensive! --- this is a local sig for local people!
