caligarinet Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 After having had my chassis re-conditioned by Arch, I appear to be missing a bearing that should be in the lower dash cross-member. There is a bearing where the steering column goes through the bulkhead, which looks like it might be similar. Any advice on where to get one and how to fit it? Thanks Paul W Scottish Sevens ***new***ZX12R Rebuild Site***new***
Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 13, 2006 Support Team Posted March 13, 2006 I got replacements from Caterham - they aren't expensive. They are however a complete b'stard to fit . In the end I used brute force and ignorance. They have what I can only describe as "bumps" on them whcih should pop into holes in the sleeve they slide into. Well they do when you buy them but by the time I had forced them in they were bumpless 😳. I tried rubber lube, I tried using thin metal strips to stop the bumps catching the edge of the sleeve but all to no avail. Having said all that though mine havent moved so the bumps would appear to be superfluous. Yellow SL #32
Mr Locust Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Triumph Spitfire steering column bush is fitted at the dash (and lower down if I remember correctly). If CC don't have them, someone like Rimmer Bros, T&D Fitchett, Canley Classics or one of the other Triumph specialists will have loads. Your local factor may also have them in the QH book. Peter T Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I notice on the R500 they do not have the tube which goes from the upper dash to bulkhead, so fitting new bushes is a doddle as you can just pop them out. Carbon Components Here K9 Composites
caligarinet Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks for info, Peter. That will be the tube that I have just rivetted in place then, doh!. Caterham parts have dispatched the part, so will try and fit it this weekend. Thanks again. Scottish Sevens ***new***ZX12R Rebuild Site***new***
