As part of my rebuild I'm planning to mount the foglight/reversing light below the rear panel (just can't bring myself to drill holes in my lovely new back panel)

I've got the correct (hinged) brackets but it would appear they're intended to bolt somewhere on the chassis. I'm therefore assuming there should be some extra fixings on the chassis that a car of my age (1986) doesn't have.

Anyway, my current plan is to rivet this part of the bracket to the upright chassis tubes behind the panel using a large flange rivet. Is there a better idea?

Cheers,

Can you not use a couple of number plate brackets (for spare tyre-less cars

) to mount the other lights? These rivet on to the lower chassis tube at the bottom of the rear panel.

Or, what about mounting on the rear wings, like the old wipac lights?

There are some round tubes on the bottom chassis tube that the bolt goes through and then goes through the fog light bracket. I am due to take my car down to clives for MOT on Sat 18th so if you want to have a look or if not i can try and get some pictures of it.

cheers Jason, sounds like this is another case of old chassis syndrome, can't see any suitable fixings on mine. My car should be back at Clive's by the weekend so I'll try and pop down if I haven't found a solution in the interim.

Guy, that's how I'd envisioned these brackets would be, may turn out to be the best approach to make up something like this.

Bracket is easy to fit - three little rivets - you need to drill the holes. I squirted Dinitrol into the holes.

There's a close up of it here taken from below.
