The fan on my heater has packed up.

Is it possible to remove the fan with the three bolts on top or do I have to remove the whole lid to get at it?

Where can I get a new motor from, at a sensible price?

This is the standard heater for a 1990 car and not the fresh air one with the extra bonnet loovres.

If I were to remove the heater, what do I need to patch the hole with, I like to tour with my car so I would like to keep it really

I had the same on mine. You need to take the lid off the heater as the 3 bolts don't have a captive nut on the other side. To get at the rear screws on the lid you need to remove the screws that fix the heater to the bulkhead and tilt it forward. A small stubby screwdriver will then get at the back screws. You don't need to start removing hoses.

Remove the fan from the motor spindle & then you can get the motor out. Theres a good chance that a good strip down & clean will get it going (mine did) Also check that the switch has all of its wires connected - its easy to pull one off behind the dash.

If the motor is dud I think that early MGB and possibly Mini is the same - loads on Ebay usually.

Good luck

I have taken the motor out and apart, cleaned it up and lubricated the bearings.

It now works better than ever *cool*

Thanks for the advice, job done.
