Hadders Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Just bought a BC1200 and thanks to Myles’s site and others I can see how to install it. However, wondering on the best location for the computer itself. Given line of sight is required options seem to be: on a bracket on the scuttle, on a windscreen mount (as per Miles) or even on the steering wheel (looks neat but not sure this will be in LOS and have a QR wheel). Current favourite is to make / find a bracket to mount onto scuttle edge. BTW I'll be keeping the standard speedo so can't fit there. So where / how did you mount yours? Graham King Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Hadders, when I fitted mine, I removed the windscreen washer switch and mounted it in the hole that left. The Sigma bracket fits in quite nicely. I had never used the windscreen washers. Good luck Graham. R7 GPK Superlight #85
andy couchman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Made up small 90 degree bracket in ali - fits onto the speedo frame thing if you remove the handlebar round bit. Then attached with Velcro so that it is removable. Then attached to scuttle - it's nicely in line of sight without getting in the way of anything. Andy
Hadders Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 I'll take a look at the washer switch position Graham. Thanks. Not used mine much yet either. Andy what does "fits onto the speedo frame thing if you remove the handlebar round bit" mean? I take it the horizontal part of the bracket goes into the hole with the speedo and sits on top of it? Or am I being a numpty? 😬 Thnaks Ben Orange Superlight #53
andy_h Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 On dash just to left of where your left hand is when it's on the wheel. Fixed via 2no. 4mm bolts through the central plastic that holds the computer (squashes plastic curved bit designed to sit on bike handle bars) and the dash, then you can remove the computer as intended My previous 7 had it mounted on the RHS where the dash drops to meet drivers side the sill. Held on with plastic ty-wrap. Not the best position but it worked. White road legal 2.0 HPC VX race car 😬
andy couchman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 The curved bit is held on by four tiny screws and can be removed as you are not fitting it to handlebars. That leaves a flat plane, which can make the mounting easier. Andy
Hadders Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Thanks Andy. All clear now. 😬 Orange Superlight #53
Myles Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Hadders - the windscreen mount on mine is about 2 and a bit years out of date. I've been running aeroscreens for at least that long. Geoff C Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Mines attatched to the centre of my quick release steering wheel, on a curly lead that plugs into a phono jack just under the dash. Its not particularly line of sight but I am more interested in the change up light than the what speed I am doing. Used to have it just behind the windscreen sort of on top of the dash but it stopped me fitting the tonneau. Can send pics if you are interested. Geoff
stevefoster Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Where the speedo used to be. On an ali plate with black fablon covering contact adhesived in the hole. The only thing I want in my line of sight is the road/track 😬 ... the shift light and the oil pressure warning light and the dry sump belt off warning light (soon to be sorted) just below that. tiddy1 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Mine is attached to the centre of the spedo, and I have a bank of 4 square LEDs mounted on the bottom so I can see it at night, they plug into one of the old spedo bulbs simon
Myles Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 The only thing I want in my line of sight is the road/track Well, true. I normally describe it as 'near line-of-sight'... but I am more interested in the change up light than the what speed I am doing Certainly true on track. On the road, it's prudent to give your speed a little more attention these days ☹️ Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
h_____ Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Mine is attached to a little brackets and mounted on the scuttle just to the left of the the steering wheel. I just used a piece of ali to make the bracket. Ben I can show you if we meet up next week.
Gasmaninaseven Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Mine's on a small 90 degree bracket (B+Q) next to the shift lights on the scuttle- velcro holds it in place. Wire comes up through the same gromet as the shift light's- keeps it tidy. Neil Guantanamo Bay Orange SUPERLIGHT R300
LazerBrain Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Mine's been blu-tacked to the dash for about a year as I haven't got round to making a better bracket yet! The handlebar mount can be removed to give the speedo mount a flat surface. Depending on your height I think you can still mount the speedo so it's close to your line of sight, but still not impeding your view of the road/track (though you might miss out on seeing a couple of the bonnet louvres! 😬) cheers, Darren.
Hadders Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Thanks for all the replys gents. Looks like plenty of options then. Sadly car is undercover oustisde in the pouring rain, so will have to have a play tomorrow, weather permitting. Hugh, i'll take a look at yours when we meet next week. 😬 Miles - very neat. I'll remember that one for when i go aeroscreen. Orange Superlight #53
Hadders Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Hi Geoff Pictures would be good please. Sounds like an elegant solution. TIA Ben Orange Superlight #53
Bozz Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I removed the little plastic contoured bracket from the back of the mount and made up a thin flat ally replacment which uses the same screws. Then fixed it to the speedo glass with this:- My Chocolate Orange http://bozz.fotopic.net/'>here
Hadders Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 I've heard how good this dual lock stuff is, but is it a bugger to get it off the glass / does it lift paint if used on the scuttle? Orange Superlight #53
Bozz Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Not intending to take it off 😬 Bozz Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma My Chocolate Orange here
