...satnav units are down to less than £50?

I see Halfords are advertising the Garmin i3 Streetpilot for £129.99 so it can't be that long off.

I'm Keeping my hard earned in my grubby littlle mitt until then 😬

We were arguing about them the other night as my family reckon I should get one as I drive about 30-35k a year. Thing is though I have a good sense of direction and usually find places no problem so can't justify it.

At £50 then they might have some utility though. *thumbup*

It's not in the same league as the £500 TomToms but for circa £150 I think its great value.

European mapping is not included and can work out expensive as you have to buy pre loaded flash cards for individual countries. However as most day to day driving is UK based I think its a great little number.

And it runs on AA batteries when not plumbed into the ciggy lighter socket so its great for use in the 7.

Sounds ok for me. Last time I drove in Europe was a good few years ago and I can't see it changing so not a problem. No point paying a few hundred quid extra for something I wouldn't use.

I tend to use mine even if I know where I'm going.

I have loaded the speed camera database from GPSworld onto my i3 and it now warns me of fixed, mobile and SPECS cameras.

There is also a huge "points of interest" (POI) file available, that contains well known shops, garages and food outlets.

POI loading software is available free from the Garmin Website.
