finmac
As it says wondered if it is possible to strip a painted carbon component back to decent looking bare carbon? i.e. using something like Nitromors?
CageyH
This is usually done using something like spongejet cleaning. (Well, if you have the equipment) An abrasive compound is blasted on to the surface, removing the paint, but leaving the carbon intact.
Myles
Cagey - yup, I believe that V7SLR sold some of his tatty carbon to a local a year or two back - and it came up fine with paint remover. I can try and check if you want. Project Scope-Creep is live... Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
lrem
I think it depends on if the carbon was treated prior to painting. Tony at TSK mentioned that they usually treat carbon with an abrasive to provide a key for the primer, in which case the stripped carbon might have a scratched appearance. Support Team Shaun_E Posted December 21, 2005 Support Team Share Posted December 21, 2005 Be very careful though. I have messed up one of my cycle wings trying to strip the lacquer off with Nitromors. Have a word with tony at TSK - he has some some stuff that did a good job of removing the lacquer from the bare carbon band on my nosecone - I just wish I had got the details before tackling my wing.
