Griff
Can anyone tell me the main differences between Dot 3 & Dot 4 brake fluids? Can they be mixed? Which is the recommended for hot climate, track day use?
Sheds Moderator
3 and 4 are mixable as I recall. 4 is higher performance/temp. If I were you I'd take the opportunity to replace the old with new, and use 4. Any traces of old, whether 3 or 4, left in the system won't hurt, you certainly don't need to run the system empty. Griff
Now read the article on FAQs about brake fluids: One thought, how to find out if a Dot 5 fluid has been used before? I know regular brake fluid has a very bitter taste but is the same true of Dot 5? Are there other tricks to help tell the difference?
