Tony Whitley
Having stripped my old () starter down at least 10 times over the last year I finally gave in an ordered a new one. It arrived today, a Magneton the same as the old one, and it has a piece of heat shield material clipped to the solenoid, much like the idea of attaching a brazing mat I saw here recently. Exciting pictures here M1 7 SMW 1.4-now-1.8K Mem.No. 10376 Edited by - Tony_Whitley on 22 Jun 2004 21:28:
Tony Martyr
It is both clipped on and stuck on as I found out when stripping mine. I have now settled on the combination of: Insulated exhaust headers on 3 & 4 insulated cable run to soleniod no extra heat insulation on the starter other than the patch mentioned. This way I hope the cooling flow gets to the soleniod but the radiant heat from the headers is kept away I have carried out the extra start relay modification and currently all is well - I might even have the confidence to dispense with pushing passenger. Mick Day
Hi Tony How's the cylinder head after the little problem you had? Mick PS. Sorry to hi-jack the thread
I.Mupferit
And just to complete the hijack, did you manage to sort out the idling problem you were experiencing 🤔 Brent Zetec 209 Reassuringly Expensive
Tony Whitley
Cylinder head: I managed to clean up the spark plug thread by screwing in four old plugs. All being well I should have another (ported) head this weekend, then all I have to do is find the courage to strip the engine down again. Idling: fitting a throttle pot with three connections improved things no end 😬 The car went to LM and back without a hitch*, unlike a depressing number of others M1 7 SMW 1.4-now-1.8K Mem.No. 10376 *Well, as long as you don't count a starter that was taking more and more attempts before spinning up and turning the engine over.
