Understeer

Recommended Posts

I have a 1997 Superlight running on adjustable platforms and from the outset the car seems to have been set up to understeer. Now this could just be my driving, but I suspect it could be more to do with the suspension set up. It also has a tendency to lock the drivers side front wheel under extreme breaking, which leads me to think that it could do with being flat floored?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me the best way to adjust the suspension to provide more bite from the front end so that I have a better-balanced car. If you have any suggestions for suspension settings that would be great, but I am also completely unsure as to how to adjust the rates in the first instance. Looking for an idiots guide here guys!

problem is theres too many parameters that can change it or be causing teh understeer

best thing is to get the car set up optimum and ideal and then go from there

i.e.

flat floor it and do all the corner weights

rear arb mathcing front arb

parallel toe at front

standard 15mm (?) rake

proper pressures

sensibly matched springs

after that you should be able to make small adjustments like to teh rake, arb, toe etc... to change the opverall charachter

if you want a quicker solution then id first make sure teh car is toeing out a litle, check your rear arb isnt too soft and make sure your tyre pressures are set to factory levels. check teh rake and maybe increase the rear height a touch
