some stuff to consdier:

cheap bilstein M1's with race springs (the old race R400 setup)

new adjustable bilsteins (current R400 race setup)

adjustable avos (freestyle supplied and recommended)

nitrons (cheap for what they are)

singel adjustable ohlins (in a league of their own but not many people use them so your sort of experimenting all by yourself)

Best VFP appears to be Freestyle, although with money no object I'd probably favour Nitrons.

Then again, I'm talking myself round to an inboard suspension setup because any current setup has such a small amount of damper/spring travel compared to wheel movement. Freestyle's inboard jobbie appears to address all the wheel:damper ration issues and all reports are favourable.

I don't actually know the exact costs. Freestyle spring/alloy dampers ~£100/corner. Nitrons are at least double than. Full inboard ~£1400 IIRC.

Then again, despite the cost of the Nitrons implying they're the best, the service of Freestyle setting up the car is probably worth again what you save over the Nitrons.

Hi Gavin,

I just upgraded my SLR to the freestyle inboard suspension - you can find my rather untechnical write-up in the last months archives. I've still not set mine up to be spot on but the difference is marked. You'd benefit from a 1Kg saving, a proper rising-rate system, damper adjustability reduced unsprung weight and a tidy design - none of which your present suspension system will offer.

If I were you, I'd give Freestyle a ring - you may be able to sort out a ride in the demo car which would be a very useful way to experience the difference before parting with any dosh.

If you're doing lots of track work, conentrating what you do spend on better and more finely adjustable dampers may be more what you're after.

Hope this helps - some quick pics of the freestyle installation are on my site. I haven't gotten around to writing anything up on it yet though.
