My new headlights

Irrelevant

Recommended Posts

A few people liked my new lights at MIRA so here's the link if you want some.

They're £37 list, sorry about mis-quoting the price as £20ish each to a couple of people 😳, but remember you'll get 10% off by talking to the appropriate chap - IIRC Dave K.

Luke: Apparently so - I checked they were road legal before I ordered them - main/dip/side. I haven't tried them at night yet so I can't comment on how well they work.

Dobuy: I won't lose any sleep over their legality but I'm pretty sure the lights are legal. They are possibly mounted a bit low, but no lower than a Tiger (sevenesque kitcar thingy), so I don't see any problems. They dip and even have side lights (that will make nice indicators with orange bulbs).

They're simple to wire up, I am using the plugs off my old lights - rubber jobbies that fit together via a hole in the side panel. Mounting wise, they're just bodged on with about 6" bits of copper pipe (for scrutineering yesterday) but I'll machine some ally up this week and fit them properly. Then I'll post some pickies - I was only really posting here as I'd given some incorrect prices to people I saw yesterday.

Hi, I'm Steve from sVc

These motor cycle lights dip centrally, I think - fine for a bike, no go for SVA + poss problems for Mot if the inspector is feeling "liverish".

Always look for an arrow moulded into the lens, pointing to the left. No arrow, no go!

Our smallest lights are 5 3/4" diameter.

Again I'll say if anybody out there finds a smaller - UK legal lens we will tool up a mounting body for it.

I've been looking for a small lens for 3 years now and nobody supplying lights to us knows of any.

Regards

Bu99er . . . . 😳

I'll take them off for the MOT then, or fit the originals, or fit another 3.5" lens. . . .Infact a plan is coming together already, involving some old M3 projector lenses......

Cheers for the advice Steve@svc

  • 4 weeks later...

Just used them for the first time - coming back from the Wooton Hatch, and they are brilliant *thumbup* They are indeed central dipping, but bu99er that, they work very well on both dip and main. *smile*

Oversteer - it's the finish at Harewood.

Dave: Valid point, but they are far, far better than my crappy old 7" lights and I'd rather be able to see than be 100% within every anal rule there is. They may not be 100% within the letter of the law at the moment but a bit of tape would solve that - although it still wouldn't pass an MOT(tape not allowed). That doesn't mean it's not road legal and safe though. A car with a bit of rust round a drain hole will fail an MOT but is perfectly safe.

sorry its been a while getting back re the TVR lights.

These look like the Hella 90mm headlights. Upper ones are the dip beam (unusually can be set for left hand dip for UK, then changed to rh dip for continental driving).

These are at the min height which is for dip beam only, so, the lower lights are the main beam.

Also, laws about high intensity lights (self levelling suspension etc etc, only apply to the dip beam.
