Mike Molloy
When I got my Blackbird it was fitted with green VX race springs (2.25" ID). I guess these are 250 lb front and 215 lb rear. Anyhow, for a light car they are *way* too hard for anything but a billiard-table-smooth track. Previous owner had thoughtfully bought (but not fitted) a set of standard 1.9" front springs (P/N 75511, 150lb), and the progressive rate rears (P/N 71198). I want to give these a try, but am having a problem with the fronts. The 2.25" springs have a conical ally top keeper that mates with the damper rod top eyelet, but what do I need for the new springs? I don't think I explained it too well to the guy at Caterham parts, cos he didn't suggest an answer. I have a pair of 1.9" top collars, but need some sort of additional spacers. Can anyone tell me the appropriate part numbers? Suspension is widetrack, dampers are (I think) Bilstein M1s, written on the bodies are the following numbers: 74501, 0401B36 2169M1. Mike Molloy
Come on damper fanciers, someone must be able to help.
Jason Plato
I'm a bit confused too . Do you need 1.9" conical top caps ( only used on the rear ) or 1.9" adjustable threaded platform or 1.9" spring retainer ( only used on the front ) ? Mike Molloy
OK, I'll have another go. Forget the rears (for the moment). I have 1.9" dia. front springs (P/N 75511). I also have 1.9" dia. spring retainer caps - about 8mm thick ally, underside has 1.9" flange, topside has a recess ~40mm dia., side slot to allow fitting around damper rod. What I need is some sort of spacer to mate the retainer cap to the damper rod top eyelet. Can't believe it is this difficult to sort out!
