HPC gearchange problems

krum

Recommended Posts

Just acquired a VX HPC evo with 235BHP. Absolutely delighted on every front bar one, the gearchange. The engine redlines at 8400, and the gearchange really baulks at high revs (up or down), particularly when everythings got quite warm.

Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be? I thought maybe the selctor forks need adjusting or the gearbox oil is getting too hot.

As an aside I'm looking for some clear front indicator lenses and a decent looking set of sequential shift lights. I can find wing repeaters on the caterham web site but no joy on anything else

Last question (spot the newbie), can't seem to get the heater knob to stay pushed in (I'm assuming this is off)

All suggestions most gratefully received

Is it a standard T9?

With that power / rpm it a) won't last very long and b) is never wanting to be hurried.

If you have the standard T9 then upgrading to a CR quaife internals 5sp box would suit your car very well. You would be amazed at the difference. I first had straight cut gears, now semi heli. Less noise.

If you already have a performance box then their could be a fault developing / have you checked the gearbox oil level?

Is it it all gear changes or only when doing a 0-60 like run?

Do you heel and toe to assist things on down changes or just rely on the synchro's?

No it's not a standard T9, It's got Quaife straight cut internals, I always heel and toe to assist on the down change, actually it's on up-changes it seems to have an issue. The syncro's were all replaced about a year ago as well apparently.

I will go and check the box oil straight away. Probably should have done that first 😳

Thanks for the tip on the lenses.

My first T9 had problems on the up-change. Didn't want to snick in. It wasn't oil and an echange one with Quaife internals sorted it out.

It may however only be wear and tear on yours and this is something a gearbox specialist like

BGH could fix quite cheaply.
