shn7
Just wired mine up following the diagram from the FAQ and it works fine with the key switching the ignition on and the button firing the starter I seem to remember on a previous (factory built) seven that it worked like this but the starter could also still be fired from the key. Is this a case of failing memory or can it wired up that way 🤔 Steve.
mav
It can be wired that way Steve, as that is exactly how mine functions. Edited by - mav on 17 Jun 2004 21:14:
shn7
Thought so. So has anyone got a wiring diagram for that option? Steve.

elie boone
Steve, If you want the starter motor to be operated from both the starter button & the ign key just leave the wires on the ign barrel and put an extra wire on the ign positive to one side of the starter button and an extra wire from the starter position on the ign barrel to the other side of the starter button and hey presto you can start with both the button and the key. StewartG
Yep that's what I did, starter button in parallel with the key starter - works fine.
AlShack
Silly question, but how did you get the hole in the dash for the button? I have a leather dash & don't want to b#gger it up too much! Cheers Al Onwards and sideways ...
shn7
Al, Carbon dash in my case. Masking tape, mark up the hole with a compass. Drill a starter hole and then expand using a Dremel with router attachment. with leather I would cut hole in the leather with a scalpel then proceed in a similar manner to above. Steve. AlShack
Yeah, that's what I would have attempted, just nice to get a tip first! Cheers Al Onwards and sideways ...
elie boone
If you have a leather dashboard then it is best to cut the hole out in the leather before you cut in to the ali. Then glue the edges of the hole and only then cut the ali this way you prevent that the little parts of ali from drilling creeps under the leather so that you never have a decent finish.
