Burt1969
Hi all, as usual I have searched the archives before posting and I have not been able to resolve my question. If you have seen my previous posts I was looking at replacing our bench seat with some nice leather adjustable ones. The main problem with this is the uncomfortable leg room on the passenger side. Having reflected on this I pondered....... "Could I extend the footwell?" I've had a look and I would have to move two items to enable me to do this. One is the expansion bottle which I think would be straight forward, the other trickier one is the battery! Has anyone any experience of this or am I going to make a mess of my car? Thanks In Advance. Green and Ali 1600 X-Flow
wag
Had you thought about shortening your passenger's legs?
thinfourth
once you have an extended footwell the battery goes on top of the extended portion Sod the heater wheres my shades
Burt1969
Good Point re passenger legs....downside is they are mine . As my wife and I both enjoy the car It will be my turn in the passenger seat once I can get her nearer the pedals. Good thought about the battery on top. I'm assuming there is enough clearance? PS what Aluminium do I ask for and .....where do I get it from? Green and Ali 1600 X-Flow
thinfourth
it might be worth talking to arch as it looks like a one piece section so it might be a drop in bit and there is enough room as that is where my battery is. It does make a difference as mine has the long footwell and after being in car with the short well the difference is marked Sod the heater wheres my shades
Burt1969
Ah that would be great, did stare in wonder at the driverside footwell extension and wondered how neat a job I would make of the passenger side. I'll call them in the morning... I assume there is a special bracket and "dish" that sits on the top of the footwell to hold the battery? Thanks again Green and Ali 1600 X-Flow
Big Brother
Burt, Take a look at www.se7en-up.co.uk Click on "7 Rebuild" and then on "Rebuild 2" My short cockpit 79 Seven is currently being fitted with an extended footwell, as well as converted to use a 5 speed box. I need to update the site a little soon as the car is being sprayed at the moment. When back in my garage I will fit the extended footwell and take a few pics. Steve Se7en-Up! Burt1969
Thanks for the advice. Arch said approx £40 for the kit to make up the footwell. Green and Ali 1600 X-Flow

Sheds Moderator
"Arch said £40 for the kit to make the footwell". Good on 'em, I think that is pretty fair, all things considered.
michaelw
I have just fitted one that I bought from Caterham and boy is it a horrible job. It makes a huge difference to legroom though. But on my car certainly I need some sort of heat shield/lagging to stop the passengers feet cooking. Michael.
Burt1969
Thanks for that, I remember seeing some self adhesive sheets somewhere. A layer of silver to reflect the heat, then a layer of insulation then a layer of what can only be described as sticky goo. On reflection I'm going to hold of on this until the winter, will have to make do with a pillow on drivers side so my wife can reach the pedals. I don't want to spend too much time with the car off the road Green and Ali 1600 X-Flow
