Anders Sweden Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Hi everyone! I am at teh stage of asemplying my kit. My problem is that my KN Minator 7x13" don't fit with the upgraded 4-pot brakes. The inside rim touches the outside of the calliper. Anyone have experience of this? Will 6x13" fit? Thanks Anders
robmar Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Hi anders - I have some 7" minators that I put on the rear for trackdays, once I accidently tried to put them on the front and they did touch the calipers, I think they have an extra ridge on the inside for some reason when compared to the 6" wheels. Not sure of what you can do, maybe wheel spacers but then you risk putting extra loads on the hub/beariing I guess... rob ps they are bloody heavy those 7" minators... ☹️
Anders Sweden Posted January 22, 2004 Author Posted January 22, 2004 Hi Robmar! You are right, there is an extra ridge on the inside. I can put a spacer but that will mean 9.2 mm per side and change the geometry and track, 18.4mm, of the front suspension. In other words: A compromise! Thanks for confirming that I am not alone with my discoveries! Anders
robmar Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 I am wondering... caterham always claim that the minators they sell are special lighter ones (I think), so for the 6" wheels maybe they have a casting that removes this ridge as tthey do not need such a roobust wheel (and lighter is better) on a 7.. but for the 7's which I guess they do not sell many of they do not... it may be possible to machine a bit of the ridge off, however I have no idea what that would do to the structrual integrity etc... rob
