Gareth,

There are quite a few 7's you could buy for £10k do you have a preference e.g 1700 Supersprint ,1600 Classic etc...

If you're new to 7s I'd suggest buying a copy of 'The Magnificent 7' which outlines the difference in models and then have a look at the price of cars in the 'For Sale' section.

If you have an idea of what you're after try a detailed post in the 'Wanted' section.

That's how I found my car.

Good luck with the search.

Parky - thanks for the thoughts. Althought this'll be my first se7en I've been looking into it for quite a while and "the magnificent seven" has pride of place in my smallest room *wink*...

For my budget I'm hoping to find a decent VX Classic. I've pondered over the ex-Academy/Grads cars around this price but have some misgivings about buying an ex-racer.

Unfortunately my budget won't stretch to the 1.6K SS I'd really like, at least not without making it my everyday car.

Cheers,

Gareth

Gareth,

Have a look at Matthew Willoughby's replies on this thread here as he has just bought an ex-Academy car this weekend and I think he sounds pretty happy with his purchase *thumbup* Timing-wise there can't be a better time with the poor weather and some owners thinking of upgrading and moving on.

Have you had a look at the Graduates site or what about this one on Pistonheads that has just come up and could be an ideal for you here as its a untracked or raced VX classic with some good options *thumbup*

Pretty happy Me 🤔 More like 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬

Good luck in your search Gareth. I enquired about the car on Pistonheads a bit back when advertised on here and it sounded really good (although I'd rather have mine!).

It took me about 4 months and several disappointments to find the right car but it is well worth the wait.

Matt - well said *smile*

And you have a Seven to your name, whereas I do not...

I'm now looking seriously at an ex-Grads car so any tips from your recent experiences would be really welcome. Did you sort the issue with the tillet seat?

Cheers,

Gareth

You might get a 1.4kss for your budget, or a 1.6k if a little scruffy. Depends how you feel about repair work.

The 1.4ss is not to be dismissed IMO, the upgrade path is established if you want (put the head on a 1.8 short engine) and they make good cars in their own right - 130bhp, 6 secs to 60 and 35mpg is a good combination in my book. Lots of people on BC have them and they have a slight Cinderella reputation owing to their capacity. Cheap tax is a nice thing though!

Mine kept pace with Steve Cragg's Superlight (1.6 I think) between his place and the seaside on a spirited blat last summer in spite of being handicapped by my 20 stone mate in the passenger seat versus Steve's 8 year old daughter in his. I don't know what his daughter weighs but it ain't 20 stone. 😬. Mind you I did have to cane the nuts off it in every gear, all within the posted speed limits Officer, naturally. It does sound rather good between 6 and 7 thousand rpm.

I thnk they are worth a look.

I think I know which one you're going to look at. Should be very similar to mine. I don't think there are too many pitfalls so long as you know its history.

Not sorted the Tillet yet mainly due to not having it under cover yet or having any tools. I've searched the Tech Talk archives and it looks like a common problem so I have a few ideas to try out.

Red, flared wings, 1990 std cockpit, live axle 1700 x flow 135bhp Ford Vulcan, 4 into 1 side exit exhaust heated screen, ajustable shocks, heater, weather equipt.plus toneau 7000 miles. Good original car, not messed about with £7500.

You could build to your ideal spec and have change from £10k!

If you are interested please give me a call on 07770 635787.

I'm looking for a SEVEN SII/III or Caterham, rough/battered condition or even uncomplete,

preferably LHD though it's not a must.

I'm definitely NOT in the £10k budget say more like £7k if the euro stays high!

I'm in no hurry and repair work is no problem on chassis, body or engine.

The cheapest the better but WITH THE RIGHT PAPERS.

French answers welcome about legal import/registration welcome. Especially WHICH one's

COULD NOT be registered in France (Pas de réception par type aux mines)

Thanks anybody to keep me informed for any opportunity,

Renaud

Renaud - Bonjour.
