Area Representative peewee7 Posted January 18, 2004 Area Representative Share Posted January 18, 2004 Where to start? ☹️ I posted an over heating problem with my 1.6 k Roadsport a few weeks ago titled “Very Hot Se7en” got plenty of advise and loads of info off the search facility. The cooling system has never been disturbed and is only just over a year old (factory built). I thought the problem was the thermostat, so went off to buy one… I fitted and flushed as recommended, turning on the ignition the temp gauge shot over into the red? So I didn’t continue with starting up. How do I confirm the serviceability of the gauge? Could the sensor on the rail be nacked? Also could my initial over heating be attributed to water pump failure? If so how easy would it be to replace and how much would it cost? Its not just the Se7en that’s getting hot If you’re behind me and can read this, its because I’m letting you.... Pee Wee
shn7
Sounds like a wiring/sensor issue if the guage is going top of scale when the ignition is switched on. Steve.
Area Representative peewee7 Posted January 19, 2004 Author Area Representative Share Posted January 19, 2004 Steve, Cheers for the info; but what would make the gauge go from working to its current state? Would a major rise in temperature be sufficient to render the guage unserviceable? How would I confirm the need to replace the sender and the guage? Just noted the price of SPA dual guages... shn7
Pete, Sorry but the technicalities are now beyond me. I'm fine at coming up with the ideas of what might be wrong but fail miserably in the actual diagnosis department ☹️ Steve.
Area Representative peewee7 Posted January 19, 2004 Author Area Representative Share Posted January 19, 2004 Steve, ta for the honesty, at the moment strapping blocks of ice to the sides of the block sounds good to me. All I can do is keep 😬 If you’re behind me and can read this, its because I’m letting you.... Pee Wee
charlie_pank
Pete, take the sensor out, wire it up to a resistance tester and bung it in a pan of boiling water. This will tell you if it's working or not. I suspect that you have a wiring problem, this will confirm it.
