Hi ya all.. just a quickie..

Having dug the car out of the garage last week and charged up the flat batt!! I found yet again that the rear brakes seemed jammed on and the handbrake (which hadn't been left on..) had little or no movement.. the pads seem ok... Has anyone any experience/ knowlege of this..

Cheers

Sounds like you put it away wet. What happens is that the rear pads float on the surface of the discs as the caliper takes up the pad wear. When the car is left with the discs damp the pads will rust on to them. This happened to me once and it required the rear calipers to be removed (with the help of a rubber persuader 😳), by the time I got it off the pads had disintegrated-they were knackered anyway-you will be surprised how quickly the rears can wear out, people think the fronts do all the braking, but the rears also take a lot of stick and cannot be as easily inspected as the fronts.

The rears wear out because they overheat if used on the track and if you use the standard pad material it crumbles. I am sure it's due to heat soak (cos the calipers on top) on returning to the pits not actually on track as the brakes never fade on track.

Ok on race pads but still get heat soak.

I can see it being a problem if the handbrake was left on or the car was still for a very long time.

Never leave the hand brake on if damp. I have not had this problem.
