The Caterham quiet exhaust which was being talked about on here a couple of weeks ago seems to be a Cheeseman 7" diameter silencer. It's also quite a bit longer than the "small" Cheeseman silencer, and Caterham assured me it would be quite a bit quieter than my current standard system fitted to my 1.6K. All in price with 4-2-1 manifold is £595+vat (though they're currently out of stock!).

Anyone have one of these quiet silencers fitted to a K series? Is it noticeably quieter than the standard system and have you passed noise tests at trackdays?

Thanks

Got one on my R400, never had the standard one so cant compare the two, but have done a couple of track days and came in at about 97/98 decibels on the static test at 4000 RPM.

The exhaust is a nice bit of kit and sounds great IMHO ....... can e-mail you a picture if you like.

Had the standard exhaust fitted until recently replaced with the quiet exhaust.

The reduction in noise is very significant but the sound is still wonderful imho.

At Goodwood at 4,500 rpm on a 200 bhp engine with throttle bodies and the cat fitted recorded 94 db - well below the Goodwood limit. A superb piece of kit - shame it is not repackable I suppose, but maybe it will not need it for a good time.

I had to replace the primaries as well so I am not sure how you will fit just the silencer if you have the standard primaries.

Heavenly

The one I saw was repackable - the front end of the silencer was held on with about half a dozen bolts, and Caterham confirmed when I was talking to them that it was repackable.

I will also be buying a new manifold as I want a 4-2-1, so compatability is not a problem. You couldn't fit this to the standard manifold without getting a piece of exhaust pipe fabricated to join from the collector in the engine bay to the front of the silencer.

I cant remember who has had a picture, Dave i think I sent you one with a copy to someone else? Let me know who else wants a copy.

And yes it is repackable

If you change from a standard exhaust with cat to the quiet one which doesn't have a cat (unless you have an SV) do you need to get the ECU re-mapped?

If you remove the cat , you wont need to get the car remapped .

The ecu wont know the cat is removed , any power gains you make as a result of removal will be very small , the engine and ecu will have sufficient fueling to cope fine - unless you are using a setup that is very highly tuned in the first place - and with which you probably would have dumped the cat a long time ago anyway
