I am taking part in racing next year where as an option I don't have to have the screen or head lights.

It is a no brainer that to be competitive I have to take them off.

Since I would like to use the car on the road a bit I will need to fit/remove lights quite often.

Has anyone got a quick realease setup ??? Or ideas on how best it would be to do this ??

Also has anyone got any surgestions on headlights as I may as well use some smaller (and brighter) units ??

Thanks

Does anyone know what lights are fitted to the Nurburgring 24hr Race Car which Caterham are trying to sell????

I've been thinking about this too, but on slightly different lines. With all the teeny weeny lights that are available these days, has anyone fitted any as a permanent solution? Even the Caterham "small" lights are large by today's standards. I recall seeing a 7 with small rectangular lights somewhere, but there must be very small round ones available now?

Some nice small headlights would be excellent, HID lights would be cool, but expensive, anyone got any ideas?

R400 .......... I love it

I would like to keep this thread active..

I have some spiff C/F jobbies but, for pure aesthetics i am looking for small, neat ones instead: as Tiff said there should be some on the market (but, I don't fancy rectangular at all traditionalist that I am!!)

Nathan. I wondered if you knew that you don't actually need headlights to be fitted if you only use the car on the road before lighting up time? Its one of those "if it's fitted it has to work" kind of things. It has to be this way else Caterham wouldn't be able to run the car under "Roadsport" conditions, i.e. you present your V5 document instead of a log book like with an R400 challenge car because you wouldn't be able to get an MOT etc.

Sorry if you already new this and I've just taught you to suck eggs!

Incidentally, if I end up doing RS Inters next year I will be looking to do the same thing with the QR lights!

I thought that may be the case Neil but was not 100%.

To be safe I would prefer to have them.......... you can image going out when its sunny and coming back when its really heavy rain 😳 and that if you don't get held up and its dark *confused*.

Also how would I flash the B******* who won't get out of my way 😬

Hi Nutty Nat,

The little oval (?) ones below look great on their own (place thumb on the picture!) but I am sure the are too low to be legal.. shame, just the profile I am looking for....BTW, what is the legal height above road?

was thinking of the oval ones in replacement of the round ones above.

Does anyone now what the reg's are regarding lights ie how bright or anything like that???

there is a race car in the Caterham south showroom at present with "squished ones" up at a higher level. Another option is the teeny weenie lights on the car on the Fluke motorsport pages.

Honk if you love peace and quiet.

You can do what we have done on our super wide track car and just replace the headlight mounts with the old non sva type. Have the wires run through the mount and to remove you just remove the two bolts that hold the mount onto the chassis and the light just slips out with the wires, with plug, going out along the slot in the chassis mount, takes about two minutes. We have a small locating tab on the mount that allows you to put back the headlight in the right posistion.
