Apothecary Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Has anybody got a new set of Cr500's they can measure the tread depth on ? My new car has them and I'm trying to judge the wear. What life should I get from these if road use only ? Paul Superlight N0.174
rgrigsby Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 I've got a newish set downstairs that I can look at tomorrow, from memory the tread depth is pretty minimal even when new, certainly a lot less than a normal "road" tyre... Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Neil F Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 I have a brand new set that have yet to be fitted to the car. I'll try and measure the depth later today for you but I wouldn't describe them as any less of a tread depth than a regular tyre. Neil. Better to burn away and fade out, than to burn out and fade away....
Slipper man Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 CR500's start with about 4mm tread (v's up to 9 for conventional tyres.) They last about 3,000 road miles (or about 100 on a circuit.....)
Neil F Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Keith's probably right, I was just picturing how they look, but as I say I'll measure them later (when I get home!). Edited to say hopefully I'll get more than 100 miles out of them on track!!! Neil. Better to burn away and fade out, than to burn out and fade away.... Edited by - Neil F on 29 Nov 2003 12:17:45
Goochy Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Done 5100 road miles since August and mine are about 3mm rear 3.5-4 mm front. I'm pretty sure they started at more than 4mm.
bongomania Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Mine have done 3000 road miles and dont look much different from the unused spare. Honk if you love peace and quiet. See the Purple Beast at Seven-Ecstasy.co.uk
Slipper man Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 If your rears are still good after 5000 miles, you should be ashamed of yourself I forgot to say that the fronts don't wear much at all. Maybe R500's are a bit harder on their rear tyres that some Sevens.
noddy Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 I've got CR500s on my R400 (it's almost 1 month old), it's done 1100 miles including 2 track days and i'm pretty sure the tyres are looking like they have been asked to do some hard work! R400 .......... I love it
Michael_E Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 18,000 miles, 15 track days on three sets of CR500's and one set of Bridgestone 720's The CR500's tend to wear quite a bit on very hot days when your give them stick on the track. Normal road use gives between 3000 - 6000 miles (depends on how much of a nut you want to be). Out of the three sets (of CR500's) about half have still got just[:P] about enough tread to be legal and I swap these around depending on what I'm doing and what track wear is likley. Neil F Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 OK I've just measured them. 6mm at the centre line. Brand new and with the release agent still on them/my fingers. Neil. Better to burn away and fade out, than to burn out and fade away....
Myles Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 My CR500s lasted almost exactly 5k on the rear and still have another 500-1k ish on the front. Road use only (with a number of motorway miles). I've since bought a spare set of Bridgestone RE720s as cheap 'touring' boots - despite doing 144 track miles and several ks of road miles, they're still tickety-boo (and I actually enjoy the fact the move around a lot more than the 500s...) Apothecary Posted November 30, 2003 Author Posted November 30, 2003 Thanks Neil....time to go check mine. Mind you if it keeps raining like this every weekend then I'm never going to get a chance to increase that wear level. Roll on crisp & clear winter days Superlight N0.174
