bertie Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Has anyone got any expierance of using an aeroscreen with and without the half doors? Are they worth having / essential / useless? Secondly, has anyone got the Oxted Trimming Tillet seat covers and got a picture of them? I understand they're available in nylon and leather, what's the nylon like? Also are they easily removable once fitted? Cheers
caterhamnut Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 We currently have Brooklands fitted, but I guess the result is similar. We do not have half doors at present, and wind wise, its fine. However, once it gets wet on the road, you do get a very wet elbow/arm! I believe the half doors will also cut a fare amount of 'low down' wind buffeting. They are expensive from caterham, but once finances allow I think I will get some, as we use the car all year. Many people have self-made half doors, but I think I would quite like the moulded aspect of the Caterham doors. Updated Cartoon pictures here 50,000miles in 2 years
Myles Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 I've got a JPE aeroscreen, tonneau (for tillets) and half doors... As standard, I drive with the passenger tonneau on and with a drivers half-door. I'm glad I got the half-doors because they do cut down significantly on the wind coming in around the side. I've not had any problems with the tonneau flying off (OK, it came loose once at speed - but that was my fault - and it was non-catastrophic (just the center popper loose - the tillet head restraint pockets hold it pretty tightly anyway...)) I'll just pop off and see if I've any pics. So, to summarise: Half-doors - good (makes it quite a lot harder to get in of course), tonneau -good. no good pics of the half-doors -but you can look in the gallery anyway... Also - I'd recommend either the real things (as I have) with the elbow blister, or (if going the homebuilt route) using very soft and flexible material. I would find it very hard to drive (or get in...) without the blister. Keep BC free and open for ALL. Membership No. 43xx Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™ Edited by - Myles on 25 Nov 2003 20:22:14
Nick W Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 bertie I would say half-doors are almost essential if you plan on year round motoring with aeroscreens. Without them you get soaked by water off the front tyres in the rain if you have cycle wings and I can't imagine it's much fun either with clamshells. I griped like mad at the price from CC, but having been caught in a number of downpours I think they are well worth it. Nick
Julian Bradley Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 How much are they? Save me e mailing Darren......
bertie Posted November 26, 2003 Author Posted November 26, 2003 The half doors are £90 each plus VAT Tonnau with headrest pockets £124 plus VAT
Swiss Tony Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 "what's the nylon like?" Vinyl really rather than Nylon - Nylon sounds like stockings to me. Looks the same. Textured finish & a little more weather resistant. Perhaps a tad more sweaty in the summer although I sweated like a paedophile in a playground with my old leather seats anyway.
Slarty Blat Fast Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Bertie - you are aware that the Oxted tillet seat covers only cover the black shiny parts of the seat, and not the carpeted bits. They look like big black leather panty liners, held on with velcro, but they look good when fitted, unlike panty ...... Anyway, they're very thin and don't add hugely to the comfort but they do protect the seats from most of the scratches. I like them. Without half doors you get a lot of gravel in the cockpit and this finds its way under the seat covers, so you need to lift the cover and sweep if off the seat everytime you use it. Think I may be tempted to buy the half doors too. Absolutely no hitchhikers
rgrigsby Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Definetly recommend half doors, makes a huge difference to the wind and rain.... Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
