Myles Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 🙆🏻 Even the motorbike mounting kit for the RA doesn't contain a waterproof case/housing/whatever. I've searched and searched the web for something suitable to put the RA in whilst it is mounted in my aeroscreen car and not come up with anything (other than a Deep Blue (IIRC) pouch) Has anyone come across something like a splashproof CD-player case? Bear in mind that there must be some sort of exit for the cables at the rear of the unit, and I'll need to make some holes in the base of the case for the 'velcro' mounting pads. In addition, the top or front of the case must be transparent so that the alert screen is visible. Not much to ask... ...and yes, I've tried placcy bags with little success.... owelly Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Think TUPPAWARE! Or ABS enclosures from RS Components. They do lots of sizes with clear tops savin up to be eccentric. but for now, i'll just be stupid...
Frying Pan Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Jessops camera shop? IIRC, they do universal splachproof (and transparent) camera bags. Guy See some pictures of the build here
Myles Posted November 21, 2003 Author Posted November 21, 2003 Hmm - yes - not bad suggestions (not too sure about the tupperware - I am in favour of the Monarchy in general, but don't want to be seen to be too much of a flag-waver ) Keep BC free and open for ALL. LancasterBob Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Ortlieb document wallet or map case? I think they do a little A5 one, cables could pass out through the velcro watertight bit at the back, you'd need a method of mounting that's not dependant on velcro though. I'm thinking of a magnetic setup; cut a thin steel plate and fit in the recess in the base where the useless blue thing goes, then fix a couple of magnets to the underside of the scuttle surface. No marking/cutting, and works in cars with non velcro friendly dash! Rob Whoo hoo chassis gets here next week!
Myles Posted November 22, 2003 Author Posted November 22, 2003 Hmmm. Yes - this might just work. I think what I'd try would be to Dual Lock the document case to the std. mounting plate and place another dab of duallock *inside* the case. As long as the doc case is made of fairly heavy plastic - and I think they mostly are - then the Dual Lock should adhere just fine... The blue thing went months ago... Keep BC free and open for ALL.
