thinfourth Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Am wondering about best way of wintering a 7 outside as i am thinking of getting one that is for sale and i like the spec and price. But having no garage is a pain so it would be living at my parents which is secure but no garage space so best way of storing for 3 months outside member of the club because of blatchat
ewenm Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 If it's going to be kept outdoors, try to drive it a lot - the airflow keeps the moisture down. Also watch for salt build-up. Mine has lived outside for 4 years now and is surviving OK although I need to POR-15 it again soon I use a breathable car cover for mine if it isn't moving for a while. Do it, it's definitely worth it 70839 miles and counting... but a broken wrist ❗
thinfourth Posted November 21, 2003 Author Posted November 21, 2003 It won't move an inch while there i leave my BMW there while i am away and it doesn't move either member of the club because of blatchat
Myles Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 I'm more or less in the same boat - I expect Angus&Tessa will be along soon though... My 7 has lived under a Coversystems car cover for a lot of the time - but you will probably need to secure the corners in high winds (whoops! thanks neighbour...) I've invested in a pressure-washer to blast the salt and crud off and have made efforts with Waxoyl in the most vulnerable places (just in front of the footwells where the chassis starts to point in.) As to winter motoring in general, I'm still driving with aeroscreens (and helmet)... and I'm not planning to give up anytime soon (have booked a Cadence day for mid-December too...) Julian Bradley Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Car is fine under coversystems - I reckon better than many damp garages where the air doesn't get at the car. I don't even bother with the hood, but ensure it gets driven at least once a week etc. Waxoyl good, salt bad, and mind out for some of those jet washes - they often recycle the same water throughout the day, filtering out the grot, but not the increasingly saline solution you might later blast into your crevices comme un automotive enema after a muddy blat soem evening.
thinfourth Posted November 21, 2003 Author Posted November 21, 2003 Okay the car should be fine under cover but it will not be moving even an inch and i think the chances of it even being startedd are around nil member of the club because of blatchat
Jan T Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 My 2.5 year old Coversystems cover is no longer waterproof ☹️. Anyone else had this happen to theirs? Jan
Myles Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Doesn't sound too bad. You could try treating it with a waterproofery spray - only problem is cleaning it in the first place. Might be worth contacting Coversystems and asking their advice??? Keep BC free and open for ALL. Membership No. 43xx Alcester Racing 7's Equipe - 🙆🏻™
Julian Bradley Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 My coversystems thing ceased to be waterproof. So I waterproofed it with some stuff I bought for a fiver in a camping shop (Blacks, ISTR), and it is now right as rain (if you'll forgive the appalling pun) and better than new. Maintains its "breathability", apparently. No more water under the seats. BTW. When is it going to stop raining? Been non-stop for 36 hours....
