KenEvans
I hope this isn't to basic/silly a technical question - but I'm going to ask it anyway. I'm not sure whether I need a catch tank on the breather pipe for hillclimbing and sprinting. However before I installed my 1600 K Series Supersport engine into the car last summer I searched high and low for something that looked like a breather pipe and decided that I'll have to tell the scrutineer "you're a better man than I if you can find one". Could I really have missed it?...and do I need a bottle under it? Ken
Paul Ranson
If you have a breather then it needs a catch tank. However out of the box K Series don't have breathers, there are cunning connections between the cam box and the plenum and the throttle body that take care of matters. So don't worry about it. KenEvans
Thank you Paul - one less worry :-)
Peter Carmichael
Not quite. In fast left handers, the oil build up in the RHS of the head reaches the vent and the engine jets oil into the plenum. This then gets burnt and isn't good for the risk of detonation. For a competition car it might be worth channelling this to a catch tank. It is the common reason for Ks using oil.
