Duratec with Arch imperial chassis...

As per title I'm looking for an Arch chassis (S3) Caterham with Duratec fitted. Now, I know Caterham changed chassis supplier in 2006/7 and also to metric, but I understand there were a few early R400's specced with imperial chassis. I know there have been various K series Superlights converted also, which I would consider, ( I have an original Superlight at present but it doesn't really make sense to convert mine.) I have seen the white ex HPC for sale which is of interest, I just wanted to check if there are any others potentially for sale. Cash waiting for the right car.

Do you mean the white HPC with Duratec engine that’s on some of the Facebook groups? If so, somethings very odd about that one… 

 

The number plate is registered to a Porsche Boxster and the ad says a service is booked for Feb 2023 (?!) 

Also, the seller says he bought it in 2018 but that car has been advertised at least 3 times under different names in the past 18 months - and was marked as ‘sold’ a year ago at a lower figure than the current asking price.
 

All a bit odd.

You know there is something off when the seller is too lazy to write his own ad. I mean its fine to use segments of a previous ad but at least update the important information. The above is said to have been maintained by GP Sevens so I’d think a quick call to them would clear up some of the mystery. Still, this Caterham has little resemblance to the HPC it is said to have left the factory as. The use of the HPC designation is misleading and I believe an attempt to extract a larger sale price then this car should bring.

Sorry to get off topic but I must confess I’m very biased in this matter. I have firsthand knowledge of a “curb sider” (term used to describe suspicious car sales by supposedly private individuals) who is flipping a Caterham I tried to buy. He is using all the text and some photos from the on-line auction where he purchased the car. Not a single word has been changed giving rise to very misleading information. I called about the car and he stuck to the ad copy. When I went to see the car the story kept changing. When I made an offer on the car $2000 over what I know he had into the car he explained that he was looking to make $15 grand profit. At last check he had not put the car into his name so no tax had been paid. He admitted that he had no plans to transfer the ownership into his name. He would leave it in the original seller’s name until it was sold. That was six months ago and he’s changed his asking price first going up and then coming down. Right now it’s listed at two different prices on two different sites.

No matter what you are into you’ll find unscrupulous people trying to make a fast buck.
