Doc007 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 On a dry sumped Duratec should the oil level 5 mins after shut off (as per the handbook) be largely the same as when cold?
ScottR400D Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I find it can often be the same (just below the central baffle) but sometimes isn't. I find the 5 min after switch off is consistent.
aerobod - near CYYC Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 The most consistent method and the method specified for my 2012 R400 Duratec is to check with the engine running and fully up to temperature. The oil should be 5mm below the mid baffle plate, but if the centre hole just disappears from view, the level is right at the baffle plate height.
Grant_7 Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I have an alternate method; I just whip off the bonnet and look at the sight tube that Stuart at Premier Power installed on my DS tower (Duratec 420R).Absolutely superb modification that makes checking the oil - an important task - both easy and reliable.
jpouquette Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Grant_7,Any pictures available for this mod? Thanks,Jim
Grant_7 Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Hi Jim,Yes, should be below: (no idea why the 3rd image keeps rotating 90 deg...)
mph Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I sooo need this! What a fabulous little mod. Do you mind me asking what it cost and if it was part of a larger piece of work by PP? I'm tempted by their combined oil pressure+temp guage, and ultimately the 225 engine upgrade. That'll have to wait a while though
7 wonders of the world Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I don't understand what is so difficult about removing the DS cap and looking in with the engine running...?It may be a poor photo but I can't even see a calibration mark on the sight glass mod...?
