splitting the top ball joint

Any advice on splitting the top ball joint? I notice that Caterham make a specific tool here https://caterhamparts.co.uk/tools/6700-ball-joint-splitter-top-wishbone-ball-joint.html which looks brilliant.

I want to change the gator on one of my top joints at some point so if that tool is the best option I wonder if there is anyone near me in the Southwest who might have one I could borrow for 5 minutes :-)

Graham, Dave Gemzoe, a Club member, makes a device to do this, and is far more cost effective than CCs offering., I think its around £45.

You can just use a nut and bolt to press the taper pin out. Fit between underside of pin and top of casting below and unscrew nut and bolt to press pin out and break taper.

I will second the Dave Gemzoe ball joint splitter. I bought one earlier this year and it's perfect for the job. Great usage instructions supplied too.

I have one of the CC ones. Works fine but is more expensive than the Gemzoe type.

I use the Gemzoe Motorsport tool, great bit of kit and sensibly priced
