John Bigler
This is a super alloy sump, full length and with good baffles, adding about 1-1/2 inches of ground clearance. You can see a picture of it at www.jameswhiting.co.uk under "Sales". The sumps were recently discontinued by James Whiting due to lack of interest, and now they're unavailable. I tracked down the manufacturer who will supply new sumps at a wholesale price of L142.00 for a minimum order of 10. I'm willing to take 5 of these, because I want one so badly... PLEASE help me meet the 10 sump minimum. This is a bargain and might be your last chance !! jbigler@sprintmail.com Edited by - John-B on 20 Dec 2000 01:08:
deanteam
If it fits under a Twin Cam I am interested in one.
Tight fart
PUT ME DOWN FOR 1, £14.20 EACH IS A BARGIN. OR IS THAT PLUS VAT
John Bigler
This should fit a twincam crossflow as well as the standard OHV, Dean. You should have no problem with it. Sorry, Richard, the price is L142.00 plus VAT, unless going overseas. True, it's a big difference, but still a bargain. Now, just a little more interest and I can place the order to start the 4-week delivery process.
deanteam
I have an orginal Lotus Twincam which is based on the pre-crossflow block. Your answer is not clear if the pan only fits to Xflow blocks or also the pre-Xflow.
John Bigler
I rang the manufacturer to find out about the pre-crossflow engine and was advised that the alloy sump was designed primarily for the later, crossflow block. However, I have a pattern of the gasket for this sump that I can fax to you so you can decide whether your flange and mounting holes would line up, either with or without slight mods. jbigler@sprintmail.com
John Bigler
Richard, I already have 3 or 4 firm requests for new alloy sumps and plan to put in the order late next week. Please let me know if you want to be part of the order. Wishing everyone great Sevening in the New Year. John Bigler
I went ahead and ordered the minimum of 10 alloy sumps from Jenvey Dynamics, the UK manufacturer who made them for James Whiting. They'll be ready in 4 weeks. If you want one of these sumps, at my cost, 142UKP plus VAT, let me know VERY SOON, so it can be delivered to you before it is shipped out of the UK to me here in the States. deanteam
I confirm I will take one. Please send details of payment off-line. Thanks for the effort.
Michael Peterson
Hi John: I still want one. You know where to find me. The engine shipped out of Charleston, will be here Tuesday! Cheers Michael
sparkey
These look pretty good. Do they use standard crossflow oil pickup ? Does £142 include UK delivery? How would you like payment if I want one, or do we get them direct from manufacturer? Thanks Steve
Barry H
Sparkey, John is sorting out the best payment method at the moment but hopefully it will not involve payments across the pond. You could modify your old pick-up to fit the shallower sump or buy a custom made one at about £30 from the sump supplier. We are trying to sort out delivery/collection at least possible cost - depending on where you are. No doubt John when he has got it all finally sorted will post here. Are you still interested? sparkey
Hi Barry, Yes, I will want the sump and the pickup. John E-mailed me last week, but I was working away and didn't get the E-mail until the end of the week. I'll respond to him and wait for instructions on payment etc. I live in the Peak district, but travel up and down the country a lot so may be able to pick it up from somewhere. John Bigler
Success! Nine (or perhaps all) of the 10 sumps are now claimed! Lucky winners are Barry H, Allan H, Geoff D, Steve M, Michael P, Kevin F, and perhaps Mike D. Payment to be payable to Jenvey Dynamics and sent to Barry H, who graciously offered to handle UK pickup/distribution. Details to each of you, off-list. Thanks, everyone!! John Bigler
This special manufacture of 10 shallow, alloy sumps for Crossflow or BDA engines is nearly ready for delivery. Perhaps next week! There's only one of the 10 left for sale. This sump is no longer available from James Whiting and is only available from Jenvey Dynamics in lots of 10 or more. If you're interested in this high-quality sump, with good baffles and increasing ground clearance by at least 1-1/2 inches, you'll have to be quick to let me know. At only 142 UKPounds plus VAT, this is a bargain. When they were available, James Whiting sold these for 180 UKPounds plus VAT, as shown on their website. masha
Hi - I'm thinking about taking the final one but could someone please clarify what is involved in modifying the existing pickup on my 1700? thanks
Barry H
Masha, I don't know what is involved in modifying an existing pick-up but Jenvey can supply the correct pick-up for £30 plus VAT. I'm looking after the UK end of things for John so let me know if you want to proceed. Barry
John Bigler
Good to hear from you Matthew. I'm the one trying to snag your stainless exhaust system -- still waiting to hear if I won the bid. As Barry said, he's agreed to pick up the sumps at Jenvey and handle the UK deliveries or shipping, so you can deal directly with him.
masha
After looking into this I have decided not to order one at this point in time, good luck with the order and thanks for the information. Matt
masha
I knew I'd eat my words a week or two down the line: Does anyone - Barry Hunt for eg. have a spare or more than one that I could purchase now the order is made up. Alternatively - anyone that's dropped out or surplus to requirements please feel free to email me: masha@canterbury.gov.uk (problem: new wheel/tyre combination has lowered my 1700 an inch and a half) - its okay but speed ramps are likely to catch me more often now and would benefit from the shallow sump (and I can't afford a dry sump kit) Many thanks
John Bigler
Matthew, I'm sorry you didn't get in on the initial order. We could have easily made it larger than 10. As far as I know, everyone is pleased with the new alloy sumps. If not, please contact Matthew or me.
