varadybj Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I have a new factory built 280S (USA) with only 200 miles so I am new and this morning the amber engine warning light came on when I went to start it. Looked for obvious. Any ideas on what to check? Owners manual says to use an OBD generic scan tool for error description. Here lies my problem, I probably will have to buy one, but don't know location of plug. I am sure instructions will tell me how to use it. No dealer near by so I hope to fix myself. Bert
OldAndrewE Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Bert, I have no personal experience of such modern technology but there were a couple of threads on here recently that discussed the location of the OBD port:https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/620r-obdii-port-connectorhttps://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/obd-port-location-csr-260
K7 VCT Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I think your obd port will be located in either side behind the knee trim panels. Big rounnd rubber grommet to remove, my sigma 2014 cars is on the uk drivers side.
varadybj Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Thank you for the replies. Neighbor came over and attached his OBD Scanner and the readout said it was unable to establish communication and wanted me to verify connection and ignition in on position. Rechecked, same results. Any ideas on next step?
simon_h Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Which ecu do you have? If cable throttle it’s not going to communicate with a scan tool. If electric throttle it will.
varadybj Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 I have cable throttle. So how do you figure out the fault?

simon_h Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 It will be an mbe ecu rather than the lotus one that does support obd. You will have to get hold of the correct comms lead for an mbe and connect and see yourself. Last time I looked an mbe didn’t actually operate the mil and some cars get a back feed to the light so it glows slightly when it’s actually doing nothing. This may have changed since 2015 mind you. I’d see what the selling dealer says
Wrightpayne Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Have the new cars moved on that much? I thought amber was an oil pressure issue (red - alternator, green - indicators and blue - main beam).
simon_h Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 The new cars have to have proper iso symbols now. The days of the little round unmarked lamps are gone
