Another thumbs up for James Whiting Sevens

A quick shout out for some good old-fashioned, no nonsense customer service from James and Ruth Whiting. James recently worked on my Xflow and it's various issues and he has set the car up beautifully, also setting up the rear suspension today after doing some work on one of the rear hubs. Best it's run in years !!

I really like James - a really interesting and knowledgeable chap who's happy to spend time to explain the work and chat and at the end of it charges a very fair price for a decent job. Ruth is lovely too and the cuppa this morning while I waited for my car was top notch.

Very pleased with the axle James built for my old car.

Always remember his reply when I asked about getting a more powerful engine.  He said most people don't know how to get the most out of what they already have.

I think nowadays we are very lucky to have so many excellent Independent places who can repair our cars when time, ability or space are in short supply. JW of course is 'time served' with the Seven and has spent a good chunk of his life driving, racing and repairing them, even producing a short production run of his own cars, he deserves some kind of award or medal.

Yes agree with "the Ash".... took my 7 to my local back street garage who usually works on family cars and he had the car fixed within 2 hours.

Unlike the Caterham "specialised"  who's now had my other 7 for over 6 months now and is still not fxed.

Yep James Whiting is a legend who fixed my car when others failed to get anywhere close.

I meant quite the opposite, the specialist indies are usually very good and understand what's required. With back street garages a lot comes down to trust, yes some are good relishing the chance to work on a nice interesting car but equally some don't understand the Seven at all.

Years ago I took one of my Sevens to a garage in Abingdon for an MOT, I used them for repairs on my Passat, didn't trust them fully so stayed with the car whilst it was tested, they'd never seen one before and asked lots of stupid questions, it passed emissions with the probe on the floor, I'd never have them work on a Seven. On another occasion they left a front suspension rear pivot bolt partially unscrewed on the Passat, hamfisted knuckle dragging monkeys, I never used them again.

Good to read that all concerned have nothing but praise for the Whitings.

In the light of certain proceedings with CC it is small private operations that really embarrass the big boys.

Am I correct in stating that James & Ruth are considering winding up the business ?

As for 'knuckle draggers' working on Sevens......yes there are bad & very bad !

When my local Seven friendly garage closed I hunted for a few weeks to find a replacement. You know when you have found it. Good, knowledgeable, approachable staff & an MoT inspector who understands cars like Sevens & that they deserve an inspection to suit. Don't get me wrong as he will fail as necessary.

Any one in the Swindon, Wilts area who needs such an MoT service PM me for info.

Yes, you can't beat a good honest MOT, it is after all a safety inspection, my present tester is excellent and the best I've ever had, some I've had in the past have been of they type where I know more about the car and what to point out than they do.

I hope James isn't retiring but I guess it's inevitable eventually.

It has to be expected that James & Ruth will slow down a bit, they work like Trojans but I've not heard anything more than that.  Still can't believe the difference in my Xflow, it's like a different car !
