Jh roadsport Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Hi I've finally collected my factory built 420R. Had a great drive home on Saturday.Im assuming the oil is 5W/50 fully synthetic and not a running in oil? As the 1st oil/filter change is scheduled at 12 months or 6000 miles according to the owners handbook. I would of expected the 1st oil change to be 500 or maybe 1000 miles.Ive read a couple of self build 420R blogs where it's been stated they have a running in oil. Is this correct? So just wondering is the general consensus to just do an early oil change for peace of mind.Jason
Jonathan Kay Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Are there any specific references to the 420R or your engine in the Handbook? (I don't have a version with any.) Jonathan
Jh roadsport Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Hi JonathanThe service schedules are in the owners handbook that came with the car. It states Duratec 175/180/210 engine variants so not 420R specifically.
Steve_K Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Its probably not a dedicated 'running in' oil. ISTR my RS175 Duratec was delivered with mineral oil (grade unknown) for running in. CC's instruction was to fill with 5W/50 fully synthetic after running in for between 500 and 1000 miles. As it happens I left it in until about 2000 miles as it seemed to be running OK.Steve
