dickbowyer Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I have some of the 3D printer brackets that I never got around to fitting. Decided to fit now with SPA mirrors. Advice regarding which type mirror eg GT vs for F1 and convex vs flat is best would be most appreciated.
SM25T Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Convex for sure. I changed my SPA mirrors for the large carbon effect convex mirrors from Car Builder Solutions. Long arms ... proper ball swivel mirror head. Superb.
BigCol Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 What Ian said... I did the same, swapped the SPA mirrors for the CBS ones - they're *SO* much better! Now... any suggestions for alternatives for my aeroscreen...?
SM25T Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Unscrew three screws that hold screen to stanchion. Work on one side at a time. Insert a piece of wood to create a space. Drill 5.0mm and tap M6. Use M6-10 socket cap head screw. It shouldn't protrude past inside of stanchion face. Use a spot of loctite and don't over tighten into the aluminium stanchion.
John Vine Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Another vote for the CBS mirrors. If you have a pillar drill, you could remove the whole stanchion (one side at a time) and drill it off the car. The correct drill size is 5.2mm but 5mm works fine as the metal is soft and easy to tap. Lube drill and tap with WD-40.JV
SM25T Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I have to disagree John ..... my taps are M6 x 1.0mm pitch ..... or M5 x 0.8mm pitch. Thus drill size for M6 is 5.0mm ... or 4.2mm for M5.
John Vine Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 You're quite correct, Ian -- my mistake. I was getting confused with M6 x 0.75 pitch -- and even then, I should have said 5.25 and not 5.2! (So, it's fortuitous that I used a 5mm bit...)JV
