Graham Perry
Caterham advise me that they no longer make the 10" wide stainless rear wing protectors that they fitted up until the mid nineties. This means that should you bend one you will also need to buy a new wing to mount the replacements on as the new ones are taller and narrower and they will lead a row of holes. I am having a few sets of the old pattern made at a local engineering company. If anyone wants any let me know. Cost is likely to be about the same as Caterhams due to low production/set up costs for tooling.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted November 28, 2000 Leadership Team Share Posted November 28, 2000 Graham, I replaced the ones on my '95 car with the newer type. The visual difference is 4 rivets up the outer edge of the older ones, 5 on the new type. The rivets are still spaced similar because the new protector is taller. I can't comment on the width, there didn't seem to be any problems when fitting them. You do need new piping though because of the increased height. I ignored the old holes and just fitted the new ones with new holes. Looks great. Stu.
Graham Perry
The ones Caterham supplied me with were about an inch narrower and were taller. They also told me I would need two new wings to cover the holes as apparently they do not make the earlier width wings any more. As it all sounded a bit expensive I decided to have some made. simonray
Could you post some measurements so I can try and work out which type I've got. I would probably be interested if I've got the old type. Thanks Simon

Petrolhead
Hmm. I recently contacted Caterham about new wing protectors and the never mentioned that they had changed the size. Why are they different? I too, would be interested in yours as soon as you let us know the size so that I can compare to mine
Mat Norris
I'm pretty sure caterham do the old shape protectors still! So worth checking! Measurements are 9.5" wide for new ones and 10" for old style, I believe!

Graham Perry
Now thats interesting. I made a special journey to Caterhams for some and their guy on the counter checked and then rechecked before confirming the old 10" wide ones were no longer available. It was then I found out that they advised new wings as well. I will be disappointed if I have been misinformed !
