CycleSi
Does anybody have a torque plate that I can borrow/hire/rent?I found out today that in order to measure the ovality of the bores a torque plate is needed to simulate the 'load' that the cylinder head applies to get accurate measurements. Thanks in advance..... oilyhands
I have a torque plate, but you won't get an accurate measurement unless the block is also up to temperature and that is difficult to achieve.oily
simonpa
Why do you suspect they are oval - loss of pressure/oil?If you are stripping the engine and the piston skirts aren't significantly marked, then it may be simpler/cheaper to replace the rings and/or liners? CycleSi
Yes; massive oil consumption. The bores/liners have already been re-honed and new rings have been fitted but still it is consuming approx. 1 litre per 100 miles.I can't simply replace the liners as it is a Scholar 1.9 block conversion and the liners are a pressed in interference fit so not like a normal 1.8 block where the liners simply pull out. 7 wonders of the world
There was a modification to the oil control rings on the 1.9 conversions - Oily will tell you more. Was the engine bedded in properly or has it been run too lightly and polished the bores?
