bob-the-b
A golfing friend has a K series with dropped liners. I have seen oily hands post about skimming the block but my friend is puzzled as to why it happened in the first place. Any ideas ?
oilyhands
The liners haven't necessarily dropped, a large number of engines came out of the factory with low liners. If they have dropped then the usual cause is softening of the block due to overheating, the liner land is very narrow and if the block anneals through overheating it has insufficient strength to resist the clamping loads and will sink in. If the block has softened then any fix by skimming or lonishing will be a temporary one as they will sink again. Oily
