Bob Shelley
On the Luke Caterham harnesses does the red QR buckle go on the outside of the car or inside? Description says outside, but I just wondered before I complete the fitting.
Titanium7
My buckles are on the left side of the seat on both seats.
LouisFeakes
My drivers side is outside.Only sat in the passenger side a couple of times so not sure that side but if they're handed I guess that's outside too.
7 wonders of the world
You ideally want both buckles on the inside otherwise they act like an anchor when removed and make a nice dent in the outside of the sideskin !
Julian H
Hi BobMy buckles are both on the inside and I'd fit them that way for the very reason 7wow suggests!look forward to seeing your upgrade
martyn
You need to mount them with the lever of the red QR facing down. That’s the most important thing as it is a safety issue. After that, if possible, put them to the inside so they don’t dent the sideskin.Also.. have a test fit with you in the seat to ensure you can get the lap belt tight enough. If you're particularly skinny, you may want to go for the rearward belt mounting point.
Leadership Team Garry7 Posted July 8, 2015 Leadership Team Share Posted July 8, 2015 As Martin above, lever must be pointing down.ideally box on inside strap, for bodywork protection, but also easier to tighten properly.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted July 8, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 8, 2015 Depending on the age of the harnesses, it's possible to swap the buckle by stopping it and swapping the pins. The straps are actually the same as each other.Over ten years ago, I posted an illustrated guide of how to do it ( but I'd need to be at a PC to sort out a link to it now.......) NedK
FYI, I ordered a LH and RH pair from Caterham recently. Even though the boxes were marked LH and RH, inside the harnesses were identical. I didn't fancy swapping one over, so they resupplied me a correct one. Both mechanisms are now on the inside of the car, which I find is more convenient. Bob Shelley
Great tip Martin. Didn't realise there are alternative mountings. Wondered why I was so near the end of the adjustment. My wife will need them even more with her seat right back. Thanks. POBC as ever!!
Area Representative gileshudson Posted July 8, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 8, 2015 And if the buckles are on the inside, the added benefit is that when you get out of the car, you can hook the levers on the buckles over the edge of your handbrake well/cavity (if you have one) so that you don't sit on the buckles when you clamber back in. I swapped my buckles over to both be inside using Richard's instructions and am so glad I did. So much easier.
