johnpbransfield
can anyone suggest a cheap second hand device (laptop, tablet thingy) to play back a Sandisk micro card from a camera at events so I can see where I am going wrong.Doesnt need to work as a computer, just needs to be able to download and play back.....preferably the same day! Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted July 1, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 1, 2015 Micro SD John? I could do a deal on a Mk1 Samsung tablet, now that it has been superseded in my set of too many devices. That is, if a 7" screen is a suitable size. I"ll need to remove my data from it. I have no thought yet on pricing.
Jonathan Kay
What's the minimum size of screen you'd consider... and do you have any other devices already that might be suitable with an extra bit of hardware or software?Jonathan
Mark Durrant
What's the minimum size of screen you'd considerI think John will need at least a 55" screen
Roger Ford
Any Android phone or tablet which takes SD or Micro SD cards should do the trick. No downloading needed - just stick the card in and access it with a suitable video viewing app. It may or may not be necessary to shut the tablet/phone down before inserting the card. Some Android devices don't accept SD cards directly, but will do so using a OTG ("On The Go") adapter like this one. johnpbransfield
Thanks for the feedback.7" screen maybe OK Mark D as I now have glasses (although I dropped them at Aintree and were crunched into the gravel when I found them!)Have an iPad which plays back fine though the wife won't let me take it away! Hence the need for something cheaper just to play back at events between runs. Not very computer literate but would a Samsung Tab 2 play back better than a Tab 1 or is it to do with memory capabilities etc? Thanks. Roger Ford
iPad won't work anyway. No SD card slot or OTG capabilities. You *might* manage to get it to read SD cards via some phenominally expensive Apple accessory, but it probably still wouldn't be able to play the video [Edit: sorry, you say it does, but presumably you have to transfer the file via iTunes which isn't much use in the field].A Galaxy Tab 1 should be perfectly capable of playing back video, though you might find a Tab 2 gives you slightly smoother playback. If you don't mind spending a little more than the price of a secondhand Samsung, the Tesco HUDL 2 is supposed to be very good for £99. OliW
Roger,My ipad plays back SD card video without any difficulty through the photos app using the apple accessory that you get for £10 or so. It's excellent for that.John, sorry that doesn't help you.Oli
Roger Ford
You mean the Camera Connection Kit? £25 for a simple card reader strikes me as taking the P a bit - 25% of the cost of a Hudl.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted July 1, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted July 1, 2015 John,I use a Tesco HUDL 2http://www.tesco.com/direct/hudl/It's much easier than the PC to simply view. That said, I did use my PC at Aintree to review my datalogger data, but still used the HUDL for video
