slap_ed
I've got a BMW diff and the sales info said it had a LSD. On the diff it says LSD 3.64. So everything suggests I have an LSD.I thought that if you jacked up the rear of the car and spun one wheel, the other would spin in the same direction confirming an LSD. Whilst spinning, the other wheel stays stationary. Can someone confirm that this is what should happen. I know I could see if I leave two black tyre marks down the road but though I'd ask. Jonathan Kay
That test doesn't work that way for all types of LSD. But I don't know what should happen with the BMW diff.Jonathan
SteveA
It's a bit of an aggressive test but light the wheels up in a straight line to see if it leaves double lines of rubber (obviously in a safe location).
Ian Mackenzie
A couple of donoughts, or half shafts out for a look......

Jonathan Kay
The next time you jack it up please could you tell us what happens when you turn each rear wheel, with it in and out of gear?ThanksJonathan
slap_ed
Car jacked up and out of gear. Spin any one wheel causes the other one to remain stationary, it doesn't move. (Brakes not binding)car jacked up and in gear - will check when I can.

Ian Mackenzie
From a standing start you can still get both wheels spinning with an open diff, you can even manage about half a donought with an open diff
